We are seeking an experienced, competent, and dependable Moulder Operator to join our growing team in a fast-paced wood flooring and lumber production environment.
This position is intended for someone with hands-on experience operating and setting up industrial woodworking machinery, such as four-sided moulders and profiling equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing consistently accurate, high-quality wood flooring components while maintaining tight dimensional tolerances and excellent surface quality.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor an industrial wood moulder for the production of hardwood flooring and related wood products
- Set machine parameters including feed speed, cutterhead position, depth of cut, and dimensional settings
- Install, change, and accurately set knives, tooling, cutterheads, and related components
- Produce material to specified width, thickness, profile, and dimensional tolerances
- Measure finished material using tape measures, calipers, and other precision measuring tools
- Perform regular quality-control checks throughout production
- Identify and correct machining issues including chatter, tear-out, burning, snipe, inconsistent dimensions, and poor surface finish
- Monitor lumber for defects and determine whether material is suitable for machining
- Make adjustments to machinery as required to maintain consistent production quality
- Troubleshoot basic mechanical and machining problems
- Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, inspections, and preventative maintenance
- Maintain organized tooling, knives,
machine components, and work areas
- Safely handle and move hardwood lumber and flooring components
- Coordinate with other production employees to maintain efficient material flow
- Follow all production procedures and safety protocols
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment
- Safely lift and move materials weighing a minimum of 50 lbs
- Stand, bend, and work on your feet for extended periods
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Moulder Operator or in a similar industrial milling or manufacturing environment
- Strong ability to recognize machining defects including knots, checks, splits, shake, planer tear-out, and grain-related defects, and make appropriate machine adjustments
- Strong understanding of cutterhead rotation, feed direction, and proper tooling placement
- Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and quality control
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure to 1/16" or finer
- Ability to accurately use a digital caliper
- Ability to confidently and safely operate power tools
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving ability
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable
- Positive attitude
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of hardwood species, grain direction, moisture content, and wood movement
- Forklift certification is an asset
