Position Summary
The Journeyperson Welder performs skilled welding and metal fabrication workin accordance withtechnical drawings,specificationsand applicable standards. This roleis responsible forfabricating custom prototypes, production parts, jigs,fixturesand metal structures to meet customer and quality requirements within a fast‑paced production environment. The Journeyperson Welder works collaboratively with Supervisors and Lead Hands to support continuous improvement initiatives, achieve production targets and ensure welding is completed toestablishedparameters using GMAW, FCAW and GTAW processes.
RolesandResponsibilities
Read,interpretand apply engineering drawings, blueprints, weldingsymbolsand welding procedure specifications to ensure components are manufactured as designed and suitable for their intended application.
Set up andoperatemanual andsemi‑automaticwelding equipment to join metal components using GTAW, GMAW, FCAW and SMAW processesin accordance withapproved procedures and quality standards.
Performflame‑cuttingand thermal cutting operations using manual orsemi‑automaticequipment asrequired.
Operate metal fabrication and forming equipment, including brakes, shears and straightening and bending machines.
Repair,rebuildandmodifymetal components by weldingadditionalmaterial or reinforcing existing structures.
Complete inspections, repairs, alterations and retrofit work to ensure structural integrity and compliance with specifications.
Monitor materials andpartsusage and report shortages, defects or quality concerns.

Ensure assigned tasks and projects are completed accurately,efficientlyand within established timelines.
Maintainaccurateand detailed records and documentation.
Maintain current knowledge of welding technologies, codes, compliancerequirementsand industry best practices.
Train, direct and support junior employees and apprentices and inspect and certify work quality asrequired.
Participateand adhere toshophygiene, housekeeping and 5SProgram.
Perform all dutiesin accordance withSilent-Aire safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.
Other duties may be assignedasdeemednecessary.
Knowledge,SkillsandAbilities
Sound knowledge of welding theory,metallurgyand the effects of heat on various base and filler materials used in manufacturing environments.
Ability to read, interpret and apply welding symbols, blueprints, shopdrawingsand welding procedure specifications (WPS).
Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances,fit‑uprequirements and production quality standards.
Ability to perform visual inspections of welds and fabricated components,identifyingdefects,non‑conformancesand quality issues.
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely set up, adjust and troubleshoot welding and fabrication equipment.
Demonstratedability to thrive in afast‑paced,high‑pressureproduction environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills,
with the ability to build strong working relationships.

Education and Work Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Alberta Journeyperson Welder Certificate.
Red Seal endorsement is considered an asset.
Ability to obtain andmaintainapplicable Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifications, including CSA W47.1 and/or W47.2.
Current orpreviouscertification in GMAW,FCAWand SMAW processes in all positions is considered an asset, with certificationmaintainedas operationallyrequired.
Valid welding certification, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), 47.1 flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), certified in all positions, as needed.
Demonstrated experience working within standardized manufacturing processes,quality controlsystemsand production workflows.
Experience performing routine preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of welding and fabrication equipment.
Proven experience reading and interpreting blueprints, shopdrawingsand welding procedure specifications (WPS).
Working Conditions
Required to work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to noise, moving machinery, varyingtemperaturesand other production‑relatedhazards.
Required to useappropriatepersonalprotective equipment(PPE)to prevent exposure to hazardous materialsand excessive noise levels in the workplace.
Must have the physicalability to lift and carry materials weighing up to35lbs.
Must have theability to stand for extended periodsthroughout each shift.
Manual dexterityisrequiredto effectivelyoperatetools and equipment.
Overtime may be available occasionally with work volume.
Occasional travel to off-site locations may berequired.
