Experience: 3+ years of collision estimating experience
Earning: $23.00/hour to $38.00/hour
Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Autobody Collision Estimator to join our team in Hamilton, Ontario. The Collision Estimator will inspect damaged vehicles, prepare accurate repair estimates, communicate with customers and insurance companies, and help manage the repair process from the initial estimate through final delivery. The ideal candidate has strong experience with Mitchell Connect and/or Audatex, understands insurance Direct Repair Program (DRP) requirements, and is familiar with OEM collision repair procedures.
Responsibilities Inspect collision-damaged vehicles and identify accident-related damage.
Meet with customers to review vehicle damage and explain the repair process.
Identify and document pre-existing or non-claim-related damage.
Take clear, detailed photographs for insurance claims and repair documentation.
Determine whether vehicles are safe to drive.
Determine when vehicle disassembly is required to prepare an accurate estimate.
Prepare detailed collision repair estimates.
Research and follow applicable OEM repair procedures and specifications.
Review insurance assignments and understand claim requirements.
Work within insurer and DRP guidelines.
Communicate with insurance adjusters regarding estimates, supplements, approvals and repair requirements.
Keep customers informed about repair status, timelines and delays.
Verify vehicle model, trim level and required parts.
Confirm parts pricing and availability.
Source appropriate OEM, aftermarket, recycled or alternative parts based on repair requirements and insurer/shop guidelines.
Obtain and document sublet repair pricing.
Schedule required sublet work.
Update estimates when additional damage is discovered.
Process supplements and parts price changes throughout the repair.
Ensure repair dates and other claim information are accurately entered into the estimating/management system.
Upload estimates and supplements and monitor insurance approvals.
Ensure parts, sublet, rental and towing invoices are properly added to the repair file.
Review vehicles during the repair process to support quality control.
Ensure repairs meet customer, insurer and applicable OEM standards.
Complete final supplements and billing documentation promptly.
Confirm final insurance authorization and ensure approved amounts match the repair file.
Perform a final quality-control review before vehicle delivery.
Assist with vehicle delivery and explain completed repairs to customers when required.
Prepare and present customer-pay and third-party-pay estimates.
Qualifications 3+ years of Collision Estimator/Appraiser experience preferred.
Strong understanding of collision repair procedures and vehicle damage assessment.
Experience preparing detailed insurance and customer-pay estimates.
Experience with Mitchell Connect and/or Audatex.
Experience with collision estimating and repair-information software may include: Mitchell Connect
Mitchell UltraMate
Mitchell TechAdvisor
Audatex
OEM repair-information systems
Strong knowledge of insurance DRP procedures and guidelines.
Ability to research and understand OEM repair procedures.
Knowledge of parts sourcing, pricing and availability.
Experience handling supplements and insurance approvals.
Robust customer-service and communication skills.
Comfortable communicating with customers, insurance companies, technicians, parts departments and vendors.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Able to manage multiple repair files and priorities in a busy collision centre.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
Valid driver's licence.
Knowledge of workplace safety and privacy requirements, including WHMIS, AODA and PIPEDA.
I-CAR training or certification is an asset.

You understand that a successful estimator does more than write estimates—you help coordinate the repair, control costs, document the claim properly and make sure the customer receives a professionally repaired vehicle.
