The Clinical Skills Team in the Department of Clinical Studies is seeking an Animal Health Technician to support hands-on clinical skills education in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. Based in Clinical Studies, the position supports teaching activities delivered by faculty and instructors in both the Department of Clinical Studies and the Department of Population Medicine, with particular emphasis on equine and food animal clinical skills across laboratory, clinical learning, and farm-based teaching environments in Phases I–IV.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of department Faculty (Academic Coordinator – Clinical Skills) and the Managers, Clinical Skills Learning, the key areas of responsibility will include:
Provideteaching supportin veterinary technical skillsacrossequine, and food animal contexts, with primary emphasis on equine and food animal clinical skills,and secondary support for companion animal clinical skills whenrequired.
Facilitate DVM teaching activities across Phases I–IV, including Phase I–III laboratories and Phase IV clinical learning experiences.
Assistwith the planning, preparation, and delivery of equine, food animal, and farm-based clinical skills teaching in collaboration with instructors in Clinical Studies and Population Medicine.
Coordinate administrative and logistical requirements for teaching activities, including animal scheduling, veterinary medical logs, student communications, form completion, biosecurity compliance,roomand vehicle scheduling, and CourseLink support.
Coordinatelearning laboratory and clinical teaching resources for the Departments of Clinical Studies and Population Medicine.
Provide technical support and functional guidance to veterinary students, graduate students, clinicians, faculty, and staff.
Requirements
Successful completion of an accredited Veterinary Technicianprogram recognized by the Ontario AssociationofVeterinary Technicians.
Successful completion of the Veterinary Technician Examination (VTNE) and the OAVT mandatory ethics exam.OAVT registration isrequired.
A protective rabies titre isrequired.
Preferred qualifications/assets
A minimum of 2 years prior experience working as a Registered Veterinary Technician is preferred.
Experience supporting equineandfood animal clinical skills teaching.
Experience in DVMor RVTlaboratory, clinical learning,andfarm-based teaching environments, including Phase IV activities.
Experience working collaboratively with faculty, instructors, students, and staff in a teaching or clinical learning environment.
Experience providing instruction, coaching, or technical guidance to DVMor RVTstudents.
Robust communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a teaching workplace.
