Vice President of Sales, Canada
Toronto - Remote
A global leader in retail loyalty marketing is building out its Canadian business, and we are hiring the person who will own it.
For nearly four decades this company has designed large scale loyalty campaigns for the world's biggest food retailers. Each campaign runs four to five months and rewards shoppers for concentrating their spend with a retailer, with premium rewards like cookware, knife collections and licensed collectibles produced, shipped and merchandised in store. This is not a points card. Every campaign has a clear start, a clear finish, and a real P&L.;
A single campaign with a major grocer can be worth ten to twenty million dollars. That means these are board level decisions, and you will be selling to CEOs, CMOs and senior marketing leadership rather than to category or procurement teams.
What you will own
You will identify, pitch and win new campaign business with Canada's major grocery retailers. You will be the retailer's primary point of contact from first conversation through post campaign review, translating their commercial objectives into a tailored campaign concept and leading a cross functional team across marketing, project management, omni-channel, data and analytics, licensing and finance to deliver it. You will own the P&L; on every campaign you sell.
The company has been active in Canada for over twenty years and is now investing seriously to grow it. The role is remote to start, with a Toronto office planned within the year alongside an existing marketing colleague. There is a real path from here into broader North American leadership.
Responsibilities
- Identify, pitch and win current campaign business with Canadian grocery retailers, building relationships from senior leadership downward
- Act as the retailer's primary point of contact across the full campaign lifecycle,
from first conversation through post campaign review
- Translate a retailer's commercial objectives into a tailored campaign concept, working with internal experts to design and present the proposal
- Lead a cross functional campaign team spanning marketing, project management, omni-channel, data and analytics, brands and licensing, and finance
- Own the P&L; for each campaign, managing commercial performance from proposal through completion
- Monitor live campaign performance with the retailer and adjust in flight where needed
- Contribute to establishing the Toronto office and the longer term growth of the Canadian market
Requirements
- Established relationships within Canadian grocery, at marketing and executive level
- Approximately ten years of commercial experience selling into or working closely with food retailers
- A track record of originating new business, not managing existing accounts
- Marketing orientation alongside commercial capability, since this is a solution sold to marketing leadership
- Experience leading cross functional teams without direct reporting authority
- Comfort operating in an entrepreneurial environment without an established local office or support structure
- Fluency in English. French is an asset, not a requirement
- Willingness to travel regularly to client sites across Canada
Backgrounds That Fit
The company has hired successfully from a range of backgrounds. The strongest fits typically come from:
- Consumer packaged goods, particularly customer marketing, shopper marketing or trade marketing
- Food retail itself, especially marketing leadership within a grocery banner
- Shopper marketing, promotions or advertising agencies with food retail clients
- Brand licensing or major household brand
This is a confidential search. The client will be disclosed at the appropriate stage. Apply or reach out directly and we will take it from there.
