We are looking for support for my friend and roommate, Nicholas. Nicholas moved in with My Partner and I in June of this year in the community of Highwood (NW). We are seeking (2) permanent aides to assist Nicholas. The first position would be a part time evening aide during the hours of 4:30pm-9:30pm Monday through Thursdays. He currently has a daytime aide with him until 4:30 so we need someone who can be here by 4:30 to trade off with her. The second position is a part time weekend aide from 10am-3pm Saturdays and Sundays (key: nick has weekend respite a couple of days a month so there will be no shifts these days. Currently he does not have a regular respite home so the days for that are sporadic). Nick has a rare syndrome called Hallermann-Streiff, and requires assistance with most tasks. He is very energetic, and has great use of his arms, but requires assistance with standing and walking. He is very sweet and affectionate and again, very energetic! In the evenings he likes to be taken on walks in his wheelchair, playing ball (bouncing a basketball back and forth) and cuddling up on the couch to be read stories. He loves to be out and about so its important that the ideal candidate will be comfortable taking him on long walks. He is in diapers, so he needs to be changed and he also needs assistance with bathing in the evenings.



He has a stoma in his throat from a previous traech, we only have to keep it dry and clean. He also uses a gtube for medications and 2x per day formula feeds. He loves to eat orally, but spits out some of what he eats so we do a combined oral and feed method. (No experience with G-Tubes required, they are easy to learn). Evening shift tends to consist of hooking up the afternoon formula hookup, going for a walk/playing, administering medication, having dinner, bathing and then settling him into bed. He requires help getting in and out of the tub, so some physical strength is important (I am happy to assist on nights I am home, so if this is a huge barrier we can work around this). We are hoping to begin training the week of August 24th. Weekend shifts are mostly about companionship, getting Nick into the community and assisting with daily tasks and diaper hygiene. Family managed care, pays by etransfer 2x per month.
