Location: Williams Lake and Six Tŝilhqot’in Communities

The Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) is the official First Nations government serving the Tŝilhqot'in Nation. TNG is located in Williams Lake, British Columbia and serves six communities, including ʔEsdilagh, Tŝideldel, Yuneŝit'in, Tl'etinqox, Xeni Gwet'in, and Tl'esqox.
The Catch Monitors are responsible for maintaining and establishing a good working relationship (Liaison) between the Tsilhqot’in National Government (TNG) workers, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (FOC), the Tsilhqot’in people and visiting fishers in relation to the management of fish in our traditional territory. It is the duty of the catch monitor to represent the Tsilhqot’in Nation to the best possible ability, while assisting and providing a safe prospect for Tsilhqot’in’s and visitors to obtain fish.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct monitoring at the locations referred to them by TNG Fishery Coordinator (TFC) through the TNG Fishery Guardian (TFG) personnel
- Ensure safety procedures are being applied at the fisheries areas
- Record all required information each day on the required forms
- Issue Food Fish Authorization Permits to locals
- Ensure that all visiting fishers obtain and carry a Food Fish Authorization Permits when engaged in fishing activities
- Inform all fishers of any changes in the regulations and their permit before Food Fishing
- Other duties as required
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- First aid certification
- Class 5 drivers license
- Insured reliable vehicle
- Must be physically fit
Working Conditions:
- Travel will be required
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
- Overtime as required
- Lifting or moving up to 50lbs may be required
