Organizational Background: Parkwood Seniors Community is a not-for-profit, charitable, faith-based Continuum of Care located in Waterloo (corner of University Avenue and New Hampshire Street) supported by 23 Mennonite and Brethren in Christ Congregations. It is one of two campuses of Fairview Parkwood Communities.
The vibrant Parkwood campus offers more than a housing solution. It has been purposefully designed and expanded to create a sense of community for older adults where all are welcome.
Parkwood Mennonite Home, where the role is based, is a Long-Term Care Home for 96 residents. This job posting is for an existing position.
Assets and Qualifications
· Degree/Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation/ Recreation & Leisure/ or Related field or enrolled.
· Experience working with seniors with complex, age-related diseases and/or mental health concerns
· Creativity and enthusiasm to take risks, share recent creative ideas and overall enhance the offerings of our program team.
· Energetic, adaptable individual with the ability to organize multiple people and projects
· Positive outlook with a genuine interest in providing enriching recreation opportunities to this population.
· Self-motivated exemplifying attention to detail,
organization and problem-solving skills
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enhance our growing team
· Current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector component required
· Current TB skin test or ability to obtain
Job Description and Responsibilities
· Planning, implementing and evaluation of group and individual programs based on the needs of our Residents.
· Works as part of the Recreation team to plan and implement programs of variety and meaningful purpose that contribute to resident goals
· Works cooperatively with other departments to meet Resident needs
· Meets daily/weekly/monthly with the Director of Programs to review resident participation, new admissions and overall program direction.
· Encourages physical, emotional, spiritual, social and cognitive growth for residents.
· Maintains Program and Resident documentation
