Job Summary
The Laser Operator/Set-up primarily works at setting up and programming the computer numerically controlled laser to punch various components, frames, and cabinets. This work is moderately manual and must meet production demands. This requires productive and accurate attention to product quality during all activities, while following specific safety standards.
Responsibilities
Operate and program Fiber Optic CNC laser cutting machines for precision sheet-metal components
Perform setup changes and parameter adjustments for various materials (steel, aluminum, stainless, and copper)
Read and interpret engineering drawings and work orders to meet specified tolerances
Execute fabrication tasks including cutting, deburring, trimming, and finishing of parts
Use shop tools such as shear, drill press, angle grinder, and metal saws for secondary operations
Conduct quality checks using calipers, gauges, and measuring tapes
Operate overhead cranes and forklifts for protected material movement
Maintain workplace organization by following 5S standards and comply with WHMIS and PPE requirements
Perform basic mechanical setup, troubleshooting,
and preventive maintenance on laser and related shop equipment
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure production efficiency and workflow continuity
Must ensure quality parts are produced both cost effectively and on time
Perform first-off quality inspection, where necessary
Must be able to read blueprints
Prepare and inspect sheet materials for correct grade, thickness, and surface condition before cutting
Works to established standards.
Experience
Post-secondary or technical training
Previous experience operating Fiber Optic CNC laser
3 years of relevant manufacturing experience
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
