Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Providence Health Care, in partnership with BCIT, is offering fully funded critical care education for nurses interested in a career in the Post‑Anaesthetic Recovery Unit (PACU). This includes:

100% coverage of tuition and textbooks

Paid wages at 100% of the posted FTE for eligible program components.

Upon completing the program, you'll receive a Critical Care Nursing Certificate and begin working as a PACU Registered Nurse at St. Paul's Hospital. Participants in the program must commit to 18 months of full‑time service with PHC after completing the program.

BCIT Perioperative Program (Dates are approximate and are set by BCIT)

Phase 1: Theory

Pre‑requisite courses by distance (Unpaid). Completed online.

September 14th, 2026 to March 14th, 2027

PHC Orientation:

New Employee and General Nursing Orientation (Paid). Held onsite at St. Paul's Hospital.

To Be Determined (1‑week long)

Release Days

Pre‑requisite release days (Paid). Held at BCIT.

December 9th, 2026 and January 21st, 2027

Phase 2: Compressed Time Frame (CTF)

Classroom/Clinical (Paid). Delivered at BCIT and St. Paul's Hospital.

March 30th to June 25th, 2027

Responsibilities

Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs

Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans

Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families

Make referrals to resources as needed

Support fellow healthcare professionals

Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care's mission, vision, and values

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR)



set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses' Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high‑quality patient care. What You Bring Education:

You must be a registered nurse in Canada in good standing and be eligible for registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Minimum of 1‑2 year medical or surgical experience.

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated competence in performing CPR procedures

Experience in teamwork, decision‑making and conflict resolution

Demonstrated a teaching aptitude

Proficient in clinical leadership

Competitive pay:

$41.42 to $55.91 CAD per hour, depending on experience.

Your Day to Day

Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers.

Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence‑based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs.

Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high‑quality nursing care.

Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results.

Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems.

Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary.

Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care.

Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures.

Advocate for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team.
