Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer or CFO is a member of the executive leadership team and is a management resource to the Board of Directors and its Committees. The CFO is responsible for the overall leadership and business direction of the Finance division, advancing ACU's corporate strategic commitments, delivering results and managing organizational risk through the development and deployment of strategic plans in the areas of finance, treasury, corporate real estate and facilities management, branch support and clearing & settlments and environmental sustainability which contributes to ACU's strategic goals in support of ACU's vision, mission, purpose and aligned with ACU's values.
In addition, the CFO develops and maintains strategic relationships and partnerships across the provincial and national credit union system for the benefit of ACU. From the perspective of merger, this position is pivotal to a successful cultural, operational, and structural integration of organizations, ensuring that leaders and employees are engaged, valued, and supported pre- and post-merger and is absolutely critical to realize the full potential of the merger through a united workforce.
The CFO provides leadership across the organization, acting as a strategic advisor and business partner to all areas. As an executive leader, this role is key to supporting ACU's commitment to rural, agricultural and Francophone communities, French language services, values-based banking and ACU's triple bottom line accountability to people, planet and prosperity.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Leadership
- Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing, cross-functional team to deliver and exceed expectations while coaching employees to realize their professional development goals.
- Provide advice and counsel to the President & CEO, executive leadership team, management and employees.
- Actively contribute as a member of the executive leadership team in strategic and operational planning and decision-making.
- Act as a change agent, consulting on organizational projects with a focus on finance and accounting, facilities, service administration and environmental sustainability.
- Lead and/or support cross-functional project teams.
- Accountable for overall Finance division service levels, standards and ensuring team capabilities support the delivery and execution of strategic and operational plans.
- Maintain ultimate responsibility for the development, maintenance and quality of all partner, regulator, auditor, supplier and vendor relationships associated with the Finance division.
- Act as a management resource to the Board as a whole and to appropriate committees of the Board, developing recommendations and policies for Board consideration.
- Accountable for building a values aligned culture that supports the execution of change initiatives; improves efficiency and achieves service excellence
- Champion ACU's commitment to values-based banking, respectful workplace and diversity and inclusion
- Act as an ambassador of ACU by being visible in the organization and the community in support of corporate and community initiatives
Merger Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for all merger-related activities, ensuring alignment with organizational vision, enterprise priorities, and long-term value creation.
- Champion a unified culture by modeling transparency, confidence, and accountability,
and by setting expectations for senior leaders to communicate effectively, engage teams, and foster trust throughout all phases of the merger.
- Drive organizational readiness by ensuring that employees at all levels understand the strategic rationale, benefits, and operational impacts of the merger, and by removing barriers to adoption of new policies, processes, systems, and structures.
- Anticipate and mitigate enterprise-level risks related to change resistance, operational disruption, culture integration, and stakeholder impact, ensuring proactive solutions and timely decision-making.
Strategic & Operational Planning & Execution
- Advance ACU Corporate strategic commitments, deliver business results and manage organizational risk through the development of strategy and deployment of plans in the areas of:
- Finance; specifically accountable for financial accounting practices, financial reporting and preparation of financial statements, as well as financial strategies in the areas of asset liability management (ALM), capital management, financial management, liquidity management, and pricing
- Accounting functions of the budget and reporting on performance in relation to budgets
- Evaluating ACU's financial position and issuing regular and special financial and operating reports for executive management and the Board
- Analysis of economic, regulatory, business and financial conditions and the impact on the ACU's operations; make recommendations as appropriate to enhance performance or to mitigate losses
- Treasury, investment, borrowing and cash flow management strategies
- Branch support and clearing & settlements; specifically accountable for effective and effective business systems and operations
- Corporate real estate and facilities management; specifically facilities, procurement, purchasing and asset acquisition strategies, policies and practices
- Environmental sustainability; specifically ensuring development and enhancement of sustainability reporting in alignment with ACU's values based banking and triple bottom line
- Work in collaboration with business partners in Advice & Service Delivery and Marketing in recommending pricing strategies
- Accountable for the capital and operating budgets and plans within the Finance division
- Accountable for the development of business case assessments to advance division priorities and corporate objectives
Compliance & Risk
- Accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing review of all finance, corporate real estate and facilities, branch support and clearing & settlements and environmental sustainability governing and management policies and procedures
- Accountable for division risk management and responsible for enterprise-wide risk management
- Accountable for ensuring procedures and internal controls are followed and reported on as required
- Accountable to ensure that the Finance division is in compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements
- Responsible for large credit decisioning as a member of the Internal Credit Committee
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
This position requires a bachelor's degree plus at least 10 years of cross-functional experience, with a minimum five years at a senior leadership level. A recognized accounting designation is required.
Financial services sector experience and/or a graduate degree would be considered assets. Reading, writing and oral skills in both official languages, English and French, are an asset.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This will be a Salaried Full-time role at ACU. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday. In addition, this will be a hybrid role, some days you will work from home, and other days from the Head Office located at 540 St Anne's Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2M 5R7.
