The Cook plays a vital role in supporting The Gathering Place’s commitment to nourishing and caring for over 3,000 Guests through its meal program. As part of a quick-paced, team-oriented kitchen environment, this role involves preparing and serving large-volume meals, maintaining sanitation standards, and working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and guests. Under direction of the Kitchen Supervisor, the ideal candidate demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, and a deep respect for working in a trauma-informed, low-barrier environment serving vulnerable populations.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare delicious, high-volume meals that nourish body and soul
- Support meal service for breakfast, dinner, and supper with precision and care
- Keep the kitchen safe, clean, and organized (you know the drill—FIFO, logs, sanitization)
- Support and guide volunteer crews like the kitchen pro you are
- Work in a dynamic kitchen serving a vulnerable population with empathy, consistency, and respect
What You Bring
- Food Safety Certification or commercial kitchen training
- Experience working in a commercial or institutional kitchen
- Ability to multitask under pressure
- Kindness, professionalism, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Clear Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check
