Wage Schedule: $36.810 - $43.450 per hour

Duties And Responsibilities

Pinewood Centre of Lakeridge Health provides a range of substance use, concurrent disorders and problem gambling treatment services to seniors, adults and youth and their families in Durham Region. This position will function as part of the Community Treatment Team which provides a range of substance use treatment services for individuals seeking support.

This position will function as part of the Community Treatment Team in Scarborough. Key functions of this role will include, initial screening, treatment matching, consultation, intake, assessment, referral, advocacy, integration of required services, initial treatment planning and provision of services in collaboration with other community-based service providers. This is a partnership funded position.

The Addiction

Counsellor will work closely with members of the Scarborough Health Network such as CL's, social workers, nurses, physicians, and partnership leaders.

Note: Travel between Scarborough locations, community agencies is required.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Social Sciences;
- Additional graduate certificate in Mental Health and Addictions is considered an asset;
- Knowledge of current opioid issues including risks, overdose prevention and opioid replacement therapy;




- Ability to develop and maintain ongoing professional consultation and collaboration with community partners;
- Experience with program development and implementation;
- Ability to be adaptable to program revisions during implementation and ongoing review of service;
- Demonstrated experience working with substance use populations, including intake/screening, assessment, treatment planning and case management functions;
- Demonstrated experience in provision of individually-based substance use counselling, and group-based services, including psycho-education. Experience with telephone counselling is also required;

- Effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
- Excellent working knowledge of theories of addiction, evidence-based treatment models and best practice approaches;
- Excellent working knowledge of other key issues associated with substance use, particularly concurrent disorders, physical health issues, women's issues, homelessness, family issues, adolescent development and working with the youth population, and crisis intervention;
- Proven knowledge of multicultural and diversity issues;
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with the community, with the clinical team and independently in a manner consistent with high professional standards;
- Proven ability to recognize and diffuse escalating or potentially violent clients;
- Proven knowledge of community resources and provincial addiction system;
- Proven commitment to a client focused philosophy of care;
- Willingness to be clinically supervised and pursue ongoing professional development;
- Maintain Ontario driver's licence and own transportation
- Ability to communicate with other local languages is considered an asset i.e. Tamil, Cantonese, Mandarin.
- Experience working with agencies in Scarborough areas and familiar with their services




- Have been trained in GAIN-Q3 MI ONT is considered an asset - or agree to be trained;
- Have certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention;
- Must have satisfactory performance record;
