About BBBSW and our Activity Centre

Located next to the University of Winnipeg, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg Activity Centre is a growing hub for in office mentoring programs, youth-serving community partnerships, and family drop-in opportunities. The space hosts a variety of programs, including mentoring match drop-ins, waitlist family activities, LEAP tutoring groups, and Ukulele Club.

We are seeking an energetic, reliable, and creative Activity Centre Lead who can help create a welcoming, well-organized, and engaging environment for youth, families, and mentoring matches.

Position Overview The Activity Centre Lead ensures the space is safe, tidy, well-supplied, and ready for youth programming. This role blends hospitality, recreation leadership, group management, and light facility upkeep. You will help create an atmosphere where matches and families want to come—warm, friendly, responsive, and fun.

This position is ideal for students in Human Services, Education, Early Childhood Education, Counselling, Recreation Management, or Youth Work who are looking to gain hands-on experience. Occasional downtime may be available once all responsibilities are completed.

Schedule

Must be available to work Wednesdays 5-8 pm and Saturdays 1-4 pm (these are set hours every week); additional hours will be offered and mutually agreed upon as opportunities arise. Anticipated start date to be negotiated, with hopes of starting before October. This is a term position until May 19, 2027.

Key Responsibilities

- Welcome youth, families, and mentoring matches with warmth, friendliness, and professionalism.
- Support group activities,



manage behaviour in a calm and respectful manner, and maintain a positive tone.
- Take initiative to engage youth through responsive, age-appropriate activities.
- Encourage participation and help build a sense of community and belonging.
- Act as a program mentor during drop-in times; enjoy spending time with youth.
- Plan and facilitate simple, engaging activities (crafts, games, challenges, themed nights).
- Adapt programming based on attendance, interests, and energy levels.
- Contribute ideas that help increase attendance and make the space feel lively and welcoming.
- Create an environment that feels fun, safe, and inclusive for all identities and backgrounds.
- Maintain a tidy, organized, and welcoming space before, during, and after programming.
- Manage supplies: restock, organize, track usage, and flag low inventory.
- Set up and clean up activity stations, tables, and materials.
- Ensure the space is safe, accessible, and ready for community bookings.
- Light cleaning duties such as sweeping, wiping surfaces, organizing materials, and maintaining washroom and kitchen tidiness.
- Monitor the overall condition of the Activity Centre and report issues promptly.




- Provide support during agency events or special programs as needed.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with staff, volunteers, families, and youth.
- Work independently with confidence and reliability—programs depend on your presence.

Qualifications

- Educational background related to working with youth required
- Experience working with youth or facilitating group activities is an asset.
- Warm, respectful communication style with strong group and behaviour management skills.
- Creative, energetic, and able to take initiative.
- Comfortable working independently and managing a space.
- Awareness of systemic oppression, cultural safety, and the intersections of identity.
- Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Lived experience as a member of an equity-seeking group is valued.

Pay: $18.00 per hour
