Conditions of Employment

- Able to travel to 3460 Jingle Pot Rd in Nanaimo (there is no public transport to the site)

Role Description Camp Narnia runs the after school club at Discover Montessori School in Nanaimo (3460 Jingle Pot Rd). The after school club provides engaging activities and out of school care from 2:45-5:15 every school day during the school year.

Staff at the after school club are responsible for the health and wellbeing of all children in their care. Staff plan, deliver and evaluate engaging activities for children on a monthly schedule, and work together as a team to ensure all children’s needs are being met in the program.

Responsibilities

- Arrive at 2:45 on the day of the shift to set up and prepare for the program
- Greet children as they enter the after school program, and check-in with them at the start of each day.
- Facilitate children finding the toys, art supplies, games or other activities they want
- Lead activities within the schedule, or other activities as requested by the children
- Build positive, healthy relationships with the children in the program, and be a healthy adult role-model in their lives.
- Contribute positively to the after school club community through full participation in program, and actively supporting children to get the most out of each day




- Practice positive behaviour management and ensure that children’s behaviour is appropriate and not causing harm to people, property or the environment.

Personal Specification After School Club staff need to be able to relate to children and build meaningful relationships to last throughout the school year. This requires a positive attitude, a willingness to get to know students at a personal level, and a playful approach to time at work.

The role requires staff to have the maturity and experience to set boundaries, and manage behaviour in a positive and non-confrontational way. After School Club staff should have experience working with children in a free-play setting, and have some training in behaviour management and teamwork.

Due to childcare regulations, club staff must be at least 19 years of age, complete a criminal record check, and have experience working with children.

Conditions of Employment

Shifts are paid bi-monthly with a two week delay. Vacation pay and other accruals are included in the hourly wage.

Shifts will be booked at least one week in advance. Some additional shifts may be called out at the last minute when other staff leave for unexpected reasons.
