NOTICE OF PERMANENT M.A.S.S. VACANCY
Position: Afternoon Supervisor, Facility Services (2 POSITIONS)
Salary: Band 7 $92,264.00 - $ 110,026.00
Location: Facility Services Department, J.W.
Singleton Education
Centre
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week, 12 months/year
- Afternoon Shift 3:00pm to 11:00pm
Start Date: September 4, 2026
Position Summary
As part of the Facility Services and Planning Department Team, the Afternoon Supervisor, Facility Services reports to the Manager, Facility Services and is responsible to provide training, supervision, support, HDSB cleaning standard implementation and management response for afternoon custodial operations including emergencies and rental customers. The focus of this position is to deliver clean, safe and healthy standards to 110 facilities through the effective use of resources which include Union and non Unionized staff, equipment, supplies and Board services. This position will have casual shift responsibility for approximately 30 FTE and will support staff work scheduling and absence management including evaluation of staff and collaborate with Area Supervisors on day shift in day to day scheduling and long term forecasting to support staffing coverage.
This position will assess the condition of facilities in support of key performance indicators and metrics. This position liaises with community rental groups to ensure proper and secure use of school facilities and supports positive customer relations.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for staff and contractor services to address the ongoing safety, cleaning and building environment equipment.
- Troubleshoots, plans, negotiates and coordinates corrective measures in a timely manner.
- Prioritizes maintenance requests in order to be accountable for healthy schools while working within a budget allocation
- Facility crisis management support as required
- Manages talent resources to ensure they are being used effectively.
- Manages direct reports by assigning work, setting schedules, resolving problems, and identifying appropriate individual goals aligned with individual capabilities, and work requirements,
- Supervises CUPE staff daily from 3pm - 11pm
- Supervises CUPE staff when addressing urgent situations at other schools - Evaluates staff performance, initiates training and when required, administers discipline
- Counsels staff regarding personal issues and client relations
- Manages attendance and coverage, inquires about absences and submits to HR - evaluates performance, assists in the recruitment of Caretakers and makes recommendations for permanent CUPE hiring
- Ensures all logs and record keeping are maintained ie: asbestos, water flushing, snow removal
- Effectively communicates with the Facility Services and Planning Team Administrator regarding urgent repairs and renewal requests in order to access funds controlled by others.
- Responsible for timely and effective communication
- Manages facilities and community events.
- Responsible for cooperating with clients and coordinating aspects of school program and community events
- Responsible for Emergency events that could lead to program disruption, conflicts, cancellation or site closure (fire,flood)
- Required to respond and support facility and personnel issues
- Communicates with clients Administrators and Superintendents regarding plant operation and other related issues.
- Has sound knowledge of HDSB policies and practices, legislated specifications and operation practices or is able to access necessary information in a timely manner.
- Addresses emotional and stressful situations.
- Negotiates with Service Companies to secure effective, timely and economical service. -
- Determines staff training needs and necessary discipline and effectively communicate the training and consequences
Qualifications
- 2 year College diploma in building property maintenance or stationary engineering
- Preferred: 3 year College diploma in Business Administration
- 4 years relevant experience
- Preferred: 5 years relevant experience in a Leadership role
- Custodial experience is an asset
- Building Systems Operator level 1 or Human Resources certification
- Preferred: Property Management or Building Systems operator Level 2
- Working knowledge of Health and Safety standards, Building code, project management, leadership,strong communication, ability to multitask
- Preferred: Experience working in a Unionized environment
