Reporting

Overall Shelter Operations (Executive Director). Animal Care duties, direct report to the Animal Care Supervisor for scheduling and mentorship.

Animal Care – Full Time

**Rate of pay is not reflected in the ad: We have competitive hourly rates based on animal care experience that are higher than the suggested rate by Indeed.

Hours/Shift:

· Weekday, weekend and stat holidays as required

Business Hours Monday-Saturday 8:30am-4:30pm and Sundays 8:30am-3:30pm

· Hours subject to change based on the needs of the Shelter

· Monthly schedules are distributed 2-4 weeks in advance

· The CDHS operates 365 days a year.

Job Summary & Accountabilities

· Feeding, bathing and care of all animals within the Shelter

· Administration of medications, vaccinations and blood collection

· Monitoring health, behavior and well being of animals within the Shelter

· Interact with all animals in a safe and respectful manner

· Ability to handle and interact with large dogs

· Handling and restraint of animals (wild and domestic)

· General cleaning and disinfecting of facility and equipment (cages/kennels), as well as common areas kitchen/bathrooms,



laundry, dishes, scrubbing floors, etc.

· Compliance with PPE, disinfection protocols and Occupational Health & Safety

· Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

· Ensure that all Clients and members of the public receive professional and friendly service

· Assist with efforts to reunite lost pets with their owners which include, checking animals daily for the presence of identification and matching lost and found reports

· Other duties as required

Education/Experience Required:

· Animal Care: hands on experience working directly with animals in a veterinary clinic or previous Shelter experience

· Post secondary education and/or experience in a related field

· Knowledge of dog breeds, traits and behaviour

· Knowledge of feline coat colours, patterns and behaviour

· Comfortable in handling and interacting with animals with severe aggression and/or behavior challenges that may be unknown

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment

· Physically fit with the ability to stand for long periods of time and comfortably lift and carry 50 pounds

· General knowledge of animal welfare and humane society activities

- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (requirement of the job)

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 12 months with an option to renew based on the organization’s needs and employee's performance

Full-time hours: 30.0 - 37.5 hours per week

Hourly wage: based on job related experience. Perks after 3 months.

Schedule

- 8 hour shift

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Cambridge, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

- Animal care with a kennel environment (does not include pet store experience or dog sitting)
- Diploma in Animal Care or Veterinary Technician

Shift availability:

- Day Shift (required). No evening shifts

Work Location: In person Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
