Compensation: $32.00–$37.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Reports To: Operations Manager

Important: Horseshoe Valley Camp Frith does not provide on-site staff accommodations. Applicants must have reliable transportation and be able to commute to and from camp each day. This is a full-time year-round position. Campers/ participants will be using the facility year-round.

About Horseshoe Valley Camp Frith

Horseshoe Valley Camp Frith is a welcoming new retreat and outdoor recreation facility dedicated to providing exceptional experiences for Neurodivergent young adults and adults. We provide camp based 1 on 1 respite services, day camp retreats and adventure-based programming. Our team works together to maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment where guests can connect, learn, and grow.

Position Summary The Assistant Camp Director is a key member of the leadership team and works closely with the Operations Manager to oversee the daily operation of camp. This position provides leadership to seasonal staff, supports program delivery, ensures high standards of health and safety, and helps create an outstanding experience for campers, guests, and community groups.

The successful candidate will be an experienced camp leader who is confident managing staff, solving problems, supporting camper well-being, and maintaining a positive camp culture.

Key Responsibilities

Camp Leadership

- Support the Operations Manager with the day-to-day operation of camp.
- Supervise, mentor, and support staff.
- Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative workplace culture.
- Assist with staff scheduling, performance feedback, and coaching.
- Help coordinate daily camp operations and respond to operational needs.

Camper Care & Inclusion
- Promote an inclusive environment where every camper feels safe, valued, and supported.




- Support campers with diverse learning, behavioural, physical, and developmental needs.
- Work collaboratively with families and staff to implement appropriate support strategies.
- Assist with behaviour support and conflict resolution using positive, relationship-based approaches.

Program Operations
- Monitor program quality and ensure activities are delivered safely.
- Assist with opening and closing day procedures.
- Support special events, evening programs, and community rentals as required.
- Help maintain compliance with camp policies and regulatory requirements.
- Will be scheduled for ‘on-call’ after hours emergency support.

Health & Safety
- Ensure staff follow all health and safety procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and critical incidents.
- Maintain accurate documentation of incidents and operational concerns.
- Promote a culture of safety throughout the camp.

Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with staff orientation and training.
- Complete reports, documentation, and operational records.
- Participate in leadership meetings and planning sessions.
- Perform additional leadership duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

Qualifications

Required

- Minimum two years of leadership experience managing a summer camp, outdoor education centre, or similar recreational facility.
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with disabilities, neurodivergence, autism, developmental disabilities, or other diverse support needs.
- Proven experience supervising and mentoring staff.




- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain prior to employment).
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence with reliable transportation. A clear drivers abstract is required.

Preferred
- Postsecondary education in Recreation, Outdoor Education, Child & Youth Care, Social Services, Education, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field.
- Experience working with respite or inclusive recreation programs.
- Knowledge of behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed practice.
- Experience with camp accreditation standards and risk management.
- Highropes training/ Certification ( CUI/ Adventureworks) willingness to obtain.

Working Conditions
- Full time position with daytime, evening, and occasional weekend hours.
- Regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent walking across camp property and participation in outdoor activities.
- Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs.
