About the Role
Mow-Town, a program of Rainbows End Community Development Corporation (RECDC), is looking for a hands-on Assistant Landscape Manager to help lead our landscaping crews across Hamilton and Burlington. This is a working leadership role — you'll spend about 90% of your time in the field, leading crews, training staff, and making sure every job meets our quality standards.

What You'll Do
Field Operations
- Lead and take part in daily landscaping and seasonal work, including landscape construction, interlock and retaining walls, irrigation installation, tree trimming and planting, deck work, lawn maintenance, clean-ups, and snow removal
- Work alongside crews on-site, providing hands-on leadership and completing tasks assigned by the Landscape Manager(LM)
- Ensure work meets company quality standards and project timelines, monitoring productivity and adjusting workflow as needed
- Safely operate and oversee equipment including skid steers, mini excavators, compactors, chainsaws, ladders, and related tools
- Read and follow landscape plans, and assist the LM in preparing construction layouts and project plans
Team Supervision &Support;
- Provide daily supervision and direction to landscaping crews
- Train, mentor, and support team members while working alongside them
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment
- Help identify and develop future team leaders, and provide performance feedback to the LM
Scheduling & Coordination
- Help prepare weekly schedules, assign crews, and communicate job expectations
- Support operational adjustments related to weather, staffing, or project priorities
Customer Service
- Maintain professional, courteous communication with customers
- Respond to questions or concerns promptly, help resolve service issues,
and act on behalf of the LM when needed
Administration & Reporting
- Assist with estimates, job instructions, and basic quotations
- Keep accurate job documentation (labour tracking, materials used, site notes) and organized records via Google Drive and spreadsheets
- Support billing by submitting job information to the Office Manager, and provide updates to the LM and Executive Director
Health & Safety
- Ensure all work is performed to health and safety standards, and model protected practices at all times
- Report incidents, hazards, and injuries promptly
- Keep tools, equipment, and vehicles properly maintained and safe to operate
Training & Business Support
- Help develop and deliver training on tools, equipment, and landscape construction techniques
- Support business development through site visits, client communication, and quote preparation
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in landscaping or landscape construction, ideally in a lead or supervisory capacity
- Comfortable and safe operating equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, and compactors
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and motivate a team
- Ability to read and interpret landscape plans and construction layouts
- Organized, with experience keeping job records (Google Drive/spreadsheets an asset)
- A valid, clean driver's license is a must
- A reliable, safety-first mindset and willingness to work outdoors in all seasons
