Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
Position Overview
Bring your leadership and hands-on program experience to a role that helps children and youth with diverse abilities thrive. We’re looking for an organized and people-focused Assistant Program Manager to help lead our Special Services to Children & Families team in Surrey and Langley. If you’re passionate about supporting a strong staff team, building community connections, and making a tangible difference for children and families every day, we want to hear from you! Reporting to the Program Manager, the successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day operations of the program, including receiving MCFD referrals and CLBC preferencing, organizing staff caseloads, and meeting with clients and their guardians to introduce the program. This includes conducting case reviews, coaching staff, participating in hiring and interviews, training new employees, practicum students and volunteers, and assisting with timecards, expenses and reports. The role also involves liaising with funders and CLBC Analysts, submitting Service Level Reports, contributing to program development and the practice and procedure manual, and covering for the Program Manager during absences.
The Assistant Program
Manager is also qualified and able to perform front-line duties in group and one-to-one settings with children aged 6 to 18 who have a developmental disability, and uses a personal vehicle for business purposes.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in social services or a related field and has a minimum of one year of experience working with children with special needs, ideally including children with Autism and/or developmental disabilities. Experience supervising or leading a staff team is required, and experience in the non-profit sector is preferred. A valid BC driver’s licence with access to a reliable vehicle is required—this position requires a Class 4 licence—along with a current emergency First Aid certificate and a satisfactory driver’s abstract. The position follows a non-standard schedule operating from Tuesday to Saturday during the week. This individual brings well-developed interpersonal, counselling and communication skills, with particular strength in written reporting, along with strong organizational, time management and general management skills. Knowledge of group processes and facilitation techniques and a commitment to a problem-solving approach are essential, as is the ability to work independently, set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Highly effective as part of a staff team, they are able to identify sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality, and can develop program-related reference and resource materials.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
