Assistant Store Manager — Licensed Convenience Store, James Street

$22.00/hour · Full-time, 40 hours/week · Hamilton, ON

We are opening a brand-new alcohol-licensed convenience store on James Street North. We are hiring our first Assistant Store Manager — the person who will help us open the doors and then run the floor.

The store trades 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM, seven days a week.

What you'll actually be doing

- Running tills, serving customers, and being the senior person on duty
- Receiving deliveries, checking them against invoices, and flagging shortages
- Keeping the beer cave stocked to full — especially before arena event nights
- Placing reorders for tobacco, vapes, snacks, and drinks to set par levels
- Drafting the staff schedule
- Shift coverage responsibility
- Training new staff on the POS, on checking ID, and on how we do things
- Opening and closing, counting tills, and completing cash drops to the store safe
- Managing the 11:00 PM alcohol cut-off

What we need from you
- 18 years or older. This is the legal minimum to sell alcohol in Ontario.
- AGCO-approved alcohol sales certification (Smart Serve or equivalent), or willingness to complete it before your first shift — we pay for it
- 2+ years of retail experience, including at least 6 months as a shift lead, keyholder,



supervisor, or assistant manager
- Availability for late shifts.
- Availability on weekends and event nights
- Comfort checking ID and refusing a sale when you have to — and backing up your staff when they do the same
- Able to lift 25 kg repeatedly, stay on your feet for a full shift, and work in a cold beer cave
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

Nice to have
- Experience selling regulated products — alcohol, tobacco, vapes, or cannabis
- Experience with a cloud POS and inventory system
- You know the James Street North / downtown Hamilton area
