Position Overview
CHC Paint and Auto Body Supplies is looking for an experienced Automotive Refinish Technical & Colour Specialist to join our team.
This position is ideal for an automotive refinishing professional who has strong technical knowledge, excellent colour-matching skills, and the ability to work directly with collision repair facilities.
The successful candidate will support CHC's sales team and customers throughout the territory from St. Catharines through the GTA to Whitby, providing technical assistance, colour support, product demonstrations, training, product trials and equipment-related support.
This is a customer-facing technical position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, travelling throughout the territory, developing strong customer relationships and identifying opportunities where CHC can provide additional products, equipment and solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesColour & Technical Support
- Provide professional colour-matching and colour-correction support to collision repair facilities.
- Assist customers with difficult or challenging colour matches and refinishing issues.
- Diagnose colour-related problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Support painters and technicians with proper product selection, mixing and application procedures.
- Conduct technical assessments and identify opportunities to improve repair quality, efficiency and profitability.
- Provide technical support for PPG and other CHC automotive refinish product lines.
- Assist customers in resolving product and application issues.
Product Demonstrations & Training
- Conduct product demonstrations and line trials for new and existing customers.
- Provide hands-on training to painters, technicians and shop personnel.
- Introduce customers to new products, technologies and refinishing processes.
- Support product conversions and new account development.
- Work closely with CHC sales representatives to support customer growth and retention.
Equipment & Sales Support
- Support the sales team with automotive refinishing equipment and related products.
- Assist with sales of paint booths, booth components, filters and other equipment-related products.
- Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate equipment, products and solutions.
- Participate in equipment demonstrations and customer consultations.
- Develop relationships with customers that lead to additional product and equipment opportunities.
- Work with CHC management and sales personnel to ensure customers receive appropriate technical and product support.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with collision repair facilities throughout the assigned territory.
- Act as a technical resource and representative of CHC in the field.
- Identify customer concerns and opportunities and communicate them effectively to the CHC sales and management teams.
- Support customer retention by providing responsive and knowledgeable technical service.
- Maintain accurate records of customer visits, technical issues, trials, demonstrations and follow-up requirements.
Territory The primary territory will extend from St. Catharines through Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Brampton, the GTA and surrounding areas through to Whitby, Ontario, with travel to customer locations throughout the territory as required. Regular travel is an essential part of this position.
Compensation & Commission Opportunity
- Starting salary: $60,000 annually
- Additional commission opportunities are available based on equipment and related product sales.
- 1% commission on the retail value of qualifying equipment sales, paint booth components and filters.

QualificationsRequired
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in automotive refinishing, collision repair or a related technical automotive refinishing role.
- Strong automotive colour-matching and colour-correction skills.
- Strong knowledge of automotive paint and refinishing processes.
- Experience with waterborne automotive paint systems.
- Knowledge of primers, sealers, clear coats, toners and related refinishing products.
- Ability to diagnose technical and product-related problems.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while also supporting a sales team.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and acceptable driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory.
- Professional appearance and the ability to represent CHC positively at customer locations.
Preferred
- 5+ years of automotive refinishing experience.
- PPG waterborne paint application training.
- Experience working with PPG colour tools and colour-matching systems.
- Experience supporting collision repair facilities in a technical or training capacity.
- I-CAR certifications.
- Experience with paint booths, booth components, filtration systems or automotive refinishing equipment.
- Previous experience supporting equipment sales or installations.
- Strong understanding of collision repair shop workflow and production processes.

Physical & Working Requirements
- Ability to work in automotive collision repair and refinishing environments.
- Ability to spend significant periods of time travelling and working at customer facilities.
- Ability to tolerate varying temperatures and shop environments.
- Ability to occasionally work around automotive refinishing chemicals, paint products and related materials while following all required safety procedures.
- Ability to maintain attention to detail while working in busy shop environments.
- Ability to occasionally adjust working hours to meet customer requirements.
