Civilian Posting The background investigator will complete a full investigation of each candidate including but not limited to reference checks, home and workplace visits, or any other research required to conduct a full investigation regarding the character and background of candidates.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Confirm employment history information and other relevant details they supplied during the recruiting process.
- Contact other Police services that the applicant may have made applied to for the purpose of confirming information.
- Confirm validity of all applicant documentation; such as OACP Certificate, First Aid and CPR certification.
- Take and maintain extensive notes on each applicant throughout the background investigation process. May be required to share notes with other Police services, while maintaining compliance with the Constable Selection System (CSS).
- Conduct in-person and/or telephone interviews of applicant's current and past employment, as well as personal and educational references utilizing the accepted interview format templates as per the CSS.
- Schedule and conduct applicant home visits
- Complete a comprehensive written file synopsis based on all in-person and telephone interview notes, file review, or any other information upon conclusion of all background investigations.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which are related to the background investigation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

- Must be retired (or resigned) sworn officer in good standing.
- Minimum ten (10) years' experience as a Police Officer within the province of Ontario
- Minimum two (2) years investigative experience as a Police Officer within the province of Ontario
- Possess and maintain a valid Ontario driver's license
- Ability to complete applicant file synopsis reports as per deadlines set by the supervisors




- Ability and flexibility to travel outside Durham Region
- Must have access to vehicle, cell phone, and email
- Proficient in Microsoft Word
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion with confidential information
- Proficient with social media channels
- A successful completion of a security clearance

Hours

Hours of work to be arranged with Sergeant, Recruiting.

Salary Level

$35.00/ hour to a maximum of 25 hours per investigative background.

Background investigators will be hired as a consultant and required to incorporate themselves for the purposes of employment. All background investigators will be employed under a service contract and would be required to have the following:

- Current registered business number and an HST registration number prior to commencement of employment.
- Proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance (approx. 2 million based on consultant's wages), to cover any damages for third party damage or destruction.
- Skilled Liability Insurance, to cover incorrect information, any law suits or breach of privacy (min. $500,000).
- Personal Liability Insurance, (1 million) to cover any personal injury to Consultant.

Selection Selection will consist of a review of past performance, skills, abilities and suitability.
