JDE Property Management Inc. is seeking a dependable, hands-on and technology-comfortable Building Maintenance Technician to provide on-site inspection and maintenance support for residential, commercial and condominium properties under our management.

The successful candidate will work closely with our office-based Maintenance Coordinator but will primarily work independently in the field. The position involves inspecting properties, identifying and troubleshooting maintenance issues, completing general repairs, documenting findings and completed work, and determining when specialized or licensed contractors are required.

Responsibilities

- Conduct routine property, maintenance, move-in and move-out inspections.
- Assess and troubleshoot maintenance concerns and identify appropriate repairs or next steps.
- Complete general building and unit repairs, including minor plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, caulking, doors, locks, hardware, fixtures and other general maintenance.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and unit turnovers.
- Identify work that requires a licensed or specialized contractor and report recommendations to the Maintenance Coordinator.
- Prepare clear inspection and maintenance reports, including photographs and descriptions of deficiencies.
- Use the Building Stack mobile application to receive work orders, complete inspection reports, upload photographs, provide updates and document completed work.
- Communicate findings, material requirements and follow-up recommendations to the Maintenance Coordinator.
- Purchase or pick up approved materials and supplies when required.
- Provide property access and on-site assistance to contractors when required.
- Communicate professionally with tenants, condominium residents, property owners, contractors and JDE staff.
- Perform other related property inspection and maintenance duties as required.

Requirements

- Experience in building maintenance, property maintenance, renovations, construction,



handyman work or a related field is preferred.
- Practical knowledge of common residential building maintenance and repair issues.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to complete general repairs independently and recognize when specialized or licensed trades are required.
- Comfortable using smartphones, mobile applications, email, digital work orders and online reporting systems.
- Ability to take clear photographs and prepare concise written inspection and maintenance reports.
- Able to work independently with limited supervision and manage assigned work responsibly.
- Reliable, organized and able to follow through on assigned tasks.
- Professional and respectful when working in occupied residential properties.
- Physically capable of performing general maintenance duties and handling tools and materials.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable personal vehicle required.
- Basic hand tools are an asset.
- Applicants must currently be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Travel This is a field-based position. Most assignments will be within the Halifax Regional Municipality, but JDE manages properties in other areas of Nova Scotia. Occasional out-of-town travel may therefore be required based on operational needs.

Longer-distance assignments are expected to be infrequent and will normally be scheduled in advance. Mileage for authorized business travel will be reimbursed in accordance with JDE's mileage policy.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is both hands-on and comfortable with technology. You do not need to know how to repair everything, but you should be able to attend a property, investigate the problem, determine what can reasonably be repaired within your abilities, document your findings and clearly communicate when additional or specialized work is required.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of assigned work, exercises good judgment and can work independently without requiring constant supervision.
