The Career Counsellor provides compassionate, participant-centered support and guidance on all aspects of education and career planning. This includes conducting intake assessments, collaboratively developing career plans, and empowering participants to navigate challenges on their journey toward self-sufficiency.

Duties:

- Conduct intake assessments, assist in career planning, and co-create individualized training plans tailored to participants' goals and needs.
- Provide participants with holistic support, including guidance during and outside of class time, and connecting them with resources to help manage life's challenges.
- Advocate for and refer participants to appropriate community resources, ensuring they receive the support they need.
- Offer consistent encouragement and assistance to participants experiencing unexpected life events that may impact their ability to attend or engage fully.
- Maintain a caseload, fostering trust-based relationships with participants through regular check-ins and goal-setting.
- Accurately document interactions and updates in the database to ensure continuity of care and support.
- Build and maintain relationships with community agencies, training institutions, and government programs to strengthen participants’ support networks.
- Facilitate workshops to help participants build skills and confidence.

Qualifications:

- Degree in Social Services or a suitable combination of education and experience.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the barriers faced by single parents and women, particularly those receiving Employment and Income Assistance.




- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with cultural humility, in diverse settings and with participants exhibiting a range of behaviors and emotions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to foster positive and trauma-informed interactions.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
- Thorough knowledge of community resources and a commitment to creating a safe, supportive environment for participants.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record, Child Abuse, and Adult Abuse Registry checks.

Assets:

- Familiarity with post-secondary education requirements, funding options, and local community resources.
