Castlegar Nav-CARE Program Coordinator

Title: Castlegar Nav-CARE Program Coordinator

Job Purpose To coordinate the delivery of the Nav-CARE program in Castlegar and surrounding service areas. This position is based on the national Nav-CARE Program, developed by Dr. Barb Pesut of the University of British Columbia and Dr. Wendy Duggleby of the University of Alberta.

The Nav-CARE Program Coordinator reports to the Nav-CARE Program Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities The Nav-CARE Program Coordinator will continue to build the profile of the Nav-CARE program within the community. This individual will recruit volunteers, facilitate volunteer training, do client intakes, match volunteers and clients, and provide on-going support to volunteer navigators as determined by the national Nav-CARE program content.

The Program Coordinator

- Promotes the Nav-CARE program in the community
- Identifies clients/patients who could benefit from the Nav-CARE program
- Establishes relationships with clients/families that continue throughout client’s healthcare trajectory
- Assists in identification and development of client/family priorities that support quality of life
- Matches clients with volunteer navigators
- Promotes quality of life, fosters independence, and facilitates community connections
- Supports trained volunteers to connect client/family with community services, resources and individuals who support the achievement of patient/family priorities
- Continues to update the Community Resource Guide and add in new services as they become available
- Coordinates the delivery of the Nav-CARE program in Castlegar and surrounding service area
- Recruits, screens and interviews volunteers
- Trains, supervises and supports volunteer navigators




- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records in the program database
- Assists with the evaluation of the Nav-CARE program
- Collaborates with the Nav-CARE Program Manager on future planning and funding requests
- Provides monthly status reports to the Nav-CARE Program Manager
- Meets with staff, board, volunteers, consultants, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Cultivates "program champions" across community sectors including healthcare, seniors, families, and the local community.
- Liaises with healthcare professionals and providers as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

- Past experience recruiting, coordinating, and supporting volunteers
- Experience with community engagement
- Familiarity with Google Drive, spreadsheets, Zoom, CRMs, and basic word processing software
- Previous demonstration as an effective communicator in a work environment
- Experience with non-profit work considered an asset
- Previous experience in a personal care setting (for example, background in caregiving, nursing, home, palliative or hospice care, seniors support or advocacy, etc.) or training in compassionate care considered an asset
- Ability to travel within the service area to meet with clients and volunteers (access to a car, valid Driver’s License)
- Resident in Castlegar area an asset

Terms

- Hours will be variable with an average of 15 hours per week
- Hourly rate of pay is $30 per hour
- Mileage for work related travel reimbursed at a rate of $0.60/km

Start Date September 28, 2026.

This position will be based from a home office, with flexible hours. Being a resident of Castlegar is an asset as familiarity with local services is a requirement.
