The Ministry of Children and Family Services funds programs and services to support vulnerable children, youth, families, and individuals to live safely and succeed in Alberta. This includes providing services and resources to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect and effectively address harm that has placed them in need of intervention. Mentoring and support services are available to youth transitioning into healthy, productive adults.

The ministry also invests in community-based groups that support prevention and early intervention services such as Family Resource Networks, youth emergency shelters as well as programs that raise awareness and help respond to family violence, sexual violence, and abuse.

Role Responsibilities

Join our dedicated team at the Provincial Campus Based Care Centre, where we provide essential services to support the needs of youth and their families. We are committed to creating a safe, therapeutic, and empowering environment for our youth. As a Child and Youth Care Team Lead, you will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing direct services and support to youth. You will ensure the therapeutic and social environment is safe and secure, develop and follow care plans, and continuously evaluate and monitor the progress of the youth in your care.

Key Responsibilities:

- Act as the primary care provider for assigned youth, ensuring their needs are met.
- Develop and implement individual care plans in collaboration with allied professionals.
- Provide various types of support, including group and individual counseling, addiction management, and social skills development.
- Maintain daily records and complete monthly progress reports.
- Ensure a safe and healthy environment by assessing and minimizing risks, conducting searches, and utilizing crisis intervention techniques.
- Plan and supervise daily activities, including physical, social, and educational activities.
- Teach living skills and prepare youth for a successful transition to independence.
- Complete administrative duties, including maintaining accurate records and supervising practicum students.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to Child and Youth Care Counsellors.
- Assist with staff orientation, mentoring, scheduling and performance feedback.
- Support incident reviews, debriefings, and program operations in collaboration with Program Supervisor.

Qualifications

Requirement

- Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care or related plus 2 years directly related experience.
- Alberta Class 5 Drivers License

Preference will be given to those who have:

- Demonstrated cultural competence and experience working with Indigenous youth, families, communities and service providers.
- Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma
- Experience working in therapeutic campus-based care, residential youth care, youth justice, crisis intervention, family or youth counselling, education settings, behavioural support, or other human service environments supporting youth with complex needs.




- Current Certification in First Aid with CPR and Suicide Intervention
- Experience as a leader and/or Team Lead/Supervisory experience
- Solid leadership, communication, and organizational and task delegation skills
- Experience in managing interpersonal relations.

Notes

- There are 2 vacant positions
- Location: Edmonton, Alberta (Candidate is required to be at worksite)
- This position is 38.75 hours per week and works shift schedule of 3 morning shifts (7:00 – 3:15pm), 3 evening shifts (2:45 – 11:00pm) and 3 regular days off.
- Final candidates will be required to undergo a criminal records check (CRC).
- Applicants being considered for this position will be required to complete a Level 2 Enhanced Security screening (including an enhanced criminal record check along with a credit check) as part of the pre-employment checks for this position.
