Collective Waste Solutions is looking for a reliable, safety-focused Class 3 or Class 1 Truck Operator to join our team in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
We provide dependable waste collection and transportation services, and we're looking for an experienced driver who takes pride in operating commercial vehicles safely, maintaining equipment, and providing professional service to our customers.
Job Overview The Truck Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of assigned waste collection vehicles and equipment.
This position involves completing assigned routes, collecting and transporting waste, servicing customer locations, and delivering materials to approved disposal or processing facilities.
The ideal candidate will have experience operating front-load, side-load/ASL, and roll-off trucks, along with a strong commitment to safety, reliability, teamwork, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate assigned commercial waste collection vehicles, including front-load, side-load/ASL, and roll-off trucks.
- Complete assigned collection routes, pick-ups, transportation, loading, unloading, and disposal activities safely and efficiently.
- Follow assigned routes and dispatch instructions while meeting scheduled service requirements.
- Load, transport, and unload waste and related materials in accordance with company procedures and site requirements.
- Communicate promptly with dispatch and supervisors regarding delays, access issues, route changes, vehicle concerns, or customer service issues.
- Complete required pre-trip, post-trip, and equipment inspections and report defects or mechanical concerns.
- Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment in a clean, secure, and presentable condition.
- Complete route records, work orders, daily logs, inspection forms, incident reports,
and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Conduct field-level hazard assessments and report hazards, incidents, near misses, injuries, and property damage.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and follow company safety procedures, occupational health and safety requirements, and customer/site-specific rules.
- Use safe backing, spotting, and maneuvering practices when operating in residential, commercial, industrial, and other work environments.
- Communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, supervisors, dispatch, and members of the public.
- Provide reliable service while maintaining a professional image and protecting company equipment and property.
- Identify and communicate opportunities to improve safety, service, and operational efficiency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid Class 3 or Class 1 driver's licence with Air Brake Endorsement is required.
- Experience operating front-load, side-load/ASL, and roll-off trucks is preferred.
- Satisfactory driver's abstract required.
- Previous commercial driving or heavy-equipment operating experience.
- Waste management, waste collection, construction, industrial, or environmental services experience is considered an asset.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices and compliance with established procedures.
- Ability to follow routes, instructions, schedules, and changing operational priorities.
- Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
- General mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of commercial trucks and equipment.
- Ability to complete required paperwork, inspections, and electronic documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to maintain required safety tickets, training, and site certifications.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to repeatedly enter and exit commercial vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather, traffic, terrain, and site conditions.
- Ability to remain alert and focused during extended shifts while operating commercial vehicles.
- Availability to work varying schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, overtime, and statutory holidays as operationally required.
- Must meet company fitness-for-work and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
