Position Summary
Sirius Machine & Tool is seeking an experienced, hands-on CNC Programmer / Setup Technician with strong knowledge of both CNC milling and CNC turning (lathe) operations.
This is not a machine-operator-only position. Programming and complete machine setup will be part of the successful candidate's regular day-to-day responsibilities.
We are looking for someone who can independently take a job from an engineering drawing through programming, machine setup, prove-out, and an acceptable first-off part. The successful candidate must be comfortable selecting tooling and workholding, determining machining strategies, setting offsets, making program adjustments, troubleshooting machining issues, and verifying finished components.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, set up, prove out, and optimize CNC mills and CNC lathes.
- Independently take jobs from engineering drawings to completed first-off parts.
- Create, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs using CAM software and/or machine controls.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T;, specifications, and work instructions.
- Determine machining sequences, tooling, workholding, feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters.
- Perform complete machine setups, including fixtures, vises, chucks, jaws, tooling, and workholding.
- Set and verify tool offsets, work offsets, and machine reference positions.
- Perform first-off inspections and make necessary programming or setup adjustments.
- Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, programming, surface-finish, and machining issues.
- Optimize programs and machining processes to improve cycle time, tool life, quality, and productivity.
- Use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Verify components meet drawing dimensions, tolerances, and quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate setup sheets, tooling information, program revisions, and manufacturing documentation.
- Support CNC operators during production and assist with troubleshooting as required.
- Work with Engineering, Quality, and Production to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Follow established quality procedures,
health and safety requirements, and manufacturing processes.
- Maintain machines, tooling, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of hands-on CNC programming and setup experience in a precision machining or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with both CNC mills and CNC lathes.
- Demonstrated ability to independently program and completely set up CNC machines.
- Ability to take a job from drawing → program → setup → prove-out → first-off part.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming, including G-code and machine controls.
- Experience with Fanuc controls is strongly preferred.
- Experience with CAM programming software is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, workholding, feeds, and speeds.
- Ability to read and understand GD&T; and tight-tolerance engineering drawings.
- Strong proficiency in shop mathematics, including decimals, fractions, tolerances, measurements, and basic machining calculations.
- Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to make program and offset adjustments to maintain dimensional requirements.
- Experience machining steels, stainless steels, aluminum, and other alloys.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, to understand technical instructions and safety requirements and communicate with Engineering, Quality, Production, and other team members.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and able to work in office in Concord, Ontario.
Assets
- Experience in an ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, or similar quality-controlled manufacturing environment.
- Experience machining automotive, aerospace, or other high-precision components.
- Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate is a hands-on CNC programmer and setup technician—not simply a machine operator. You should be comfortable receiving a drawing or job package, determining how the part should be machined, programming the machine, selecting tooling and workholding, completing the setup, proving out the program, inspecting the first-off part, and troubleshooting the process independently before releasing the job for production.
