(SPL) is an Alberta-based, full-service construction firm specializing in general construction, design-build, and construction management services. SPL is focused on the commercial construction market, including major and structural construction and tenant improvements, and has been in business for more than 30 years as the original construction arm within SGC.

Join Our Team!

We are looking for a Commercial Construction Lead Hand to join our team. This position is responsible for leading by example on site, coordinating daily work activities, supporting the Foreman and Superintendent, mentoring crew members, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. The ideal candidate is a skilled carpenter with solid leadership abilities and a commitment to excellence in commercial construction.

What You'll Do

- Lead by example on site, coordinating and performing structural, architectural, and finish carpentry activities.
- Assist Foremen and Superintendents with daily planning, workforce coordination, work sequencing, and maintaining project schedules.
- Provide on-the-job guidance, mentoring, and support to apprentice carpenters and other crew members.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and layout information to ensure work is completed accurately.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install wood, steel, concrete, and other building materials.
- Construct foundations, floor systems, walls, roof structures, hoarding, formwork, backing, temporary structures, stairs,



and building envelope tie-ins.
- Install doors, frames, hardware, trim, cabinetry, flooring, architectural finishes, and specialty components.
- Coordinate material handling, deliveries, and site logistics to maintain productivity and workflow.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, concrete forms, ramps, barricades, and other temporary site structures.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and mobile equipment such as skid steers, telehandlers, MEWPs, and other construction equipment where qualified.
- Assist with demolition, drilling, excavation, grading, site preparation, and general site cleanup activities as required.
- Support quality control initiatives by verifying elevations, layouts, rough openings, rebar placement, tie-ins, and completed work against drawings and specifications.
- Take photos, document completed work, and assist with QA/QC inspections and project documentation.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, building codes, and company expectations.
- Complete Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), participate in toolbox talks, and promote a strong safety-first culture.
- Ensure proper PPE is utilized at all times and promptly report unsafe acts, conditions, and potential hazards.
- Maintain organized, skilled, and productive work areas while supporting overall site operations.

Working Conditions

- Valid driver's license required.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to assigned job sites.
- Must be willing and able to work on out-of-town projects.
- Physically demanding work involving lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, kneeling, and repetitive tasks.




- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments throughout all seasons.
- Must be able to pass a 50 lb Fitness to Work assessment.
- Weekend work as required.
- Appropriate PPE must be worn and maintained in accordance with company policies and OH&S; regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

- Journeyman Carpenter or Red Seal Carpenter certification preferred; equivalent commercial construction experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of commercial construction experience.
- Previous experience leading crews, mentoring team members, or acting in a Lead Hand capacity is an asset.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
- Working knowledge of OH&S; regulations and safe work practices.
- WHMIS 2015 and CSTS 2020 required.
- First Aid, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform, Telehandler, Leadership for Safety Excellence, and other safety certifications are considered assets.
- Basic computer skills including email, digital reporting, and project documentation.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $19.57-$40.50 per hour
