Commercial Fisheries Settlement Accountant oversees vessel settlements, quota and licensing administration, and daily communication with fishermen. The role requires exceptional communication skills, a positive and dedicated attitude, and quick thinking while coordinating time‑sensitive information. This is a full‑time position that involves close collaboration with Port Edward and Vancouver teams, including on‑site fieldwork during initial training.

(There will be some training sessions at the Port Edward office. 2–3 business trips of 3–5 days each.)
Starting Date: ASAP
Work hours: 9am - 5:30pm
Compensations: $100-120K (DOE) Bonus opportunity depending on the individual/company performance
Probation: 6 months

Main job duties:
- Serve as the primary accounting specialist responsible for fisheries settlements, quota management, and vessel‑related financial allocations.
- Manage daily communication with fishermen, ensuring accurate guidance on licenses, quotas, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee fish ticket processing, including verification of species, size, weight, dock information, and vessel details.
- Ensure accuracy and confirmation of third-party fisheries validation information
- Prepare and execute settlement calculations, including gross revenue allocation, cost deductions (fuel, bait, maintenance), and distribution to vessel owners, captains, and crew.
- Manage down payments, interim settlements, and final adjustments, which may occur 4–5 months after delivery and sometimes require multiple revisions (e.g.,
salmon, herring).
- Work closely with the SVP of Operations & Sales on fisheries management, quota strategy, and operational decision‑making.
- Communicate frequently with DFO to ensure all time‑sensitive submissions for quota and fleet licensing are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain strong working relationships with fishermen and act as a trusted liaison for operational and financial inquiries.
- Communicate regularly with the CFO and the accounting team regarding settlement accuracy, vessel costs, and financial reporting.
- Help streamline communication between Port Edward and Vancouver to improve efficiency and reduce delays.
Other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Senior‑level accounting experience
- Exceptional English communication skills (native‑level), particularly in verbal interactions
- Fisheries or seafood industry experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of quota management, licensing, and settlement processes within commercial fisheries, or the ability to learn these areas quickly.
- Comfortable working directly with fishermen and handling complex operational and financial inquiries.
- Ability to spend time in Port Edward during the initial training period.
- Ability to collaborate closely with accounting, operations, and senior leadership.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manage complex financial calculations.
- Willingness to perform on‑site fieldwork and vessel‑related operational tasks.
