Community Development Coordinator

Employment type: Full-time, Permanent

Compensation: $60,455 to $64,919

Schedule: 5 days/week (35 hours)

What You Will Do and the Value You Will Add

We currently have an opening for an experienced bilingual Community Development Coordinator. In this position, you will work alongside residents, community groups, partners, and local leaders to strengthen community well-being across Orléans-Cumberland and surrounding areas.

Drawing on your knowledge of community development and social justice principles, you will identify emerging community needs, build partnerships and coalitions, facilitate community engagement initiatives, and support collective action on issues that affect quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

- Engage the Community and Build Partnerships
- Monitor emerging issues in Orléans-Cumberland and the Ottawa region, paying particular attention to the realities of rural communities




- Conduct needs assessments to guide OCCRC's priorities and actions
- Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, community groups, partner organizations, and elected officials
- Facilitate networks, coalitions, and collaborative forums that promote civic engagement and collective action

Empower and Support Advocacy

- Support groups and community members in developing sustainable solutions to issues affecting their quality of life
- Support advocacy and civic engagement efforts related to income, food security, housing, and other social determinants of health
- Collaborate with politicians on priority issues
- Collaborate with the media to promote initiatives that improve the community's quality of life

Coordinate Initiatives and Ensure Their Visibility

- Design, coordinate, and evaluate activities, workshops, and events tailored to identified needs
- Represent the OCCRC, promote initiatives, and follow up on files, reports, and funding applications

Job Requirements

- Master's degree in Social Work, Population Health, Social Sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of relevant community services experience, including three (3) years in community development
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in French and English (essential)
- Ability to communicate in additional languages is considered an asset

Skills and Attributes for Success

- Strong understanding of systems of oppression, intersectionality, systemic inequities, power dynamics, and their impacts on affected individuals and communities
- Thorough understanding of the social determinants of health
- Knowledge and experience in needs assessment and program evaluation
- Demonstrated ability to work with community groups to foster empowerment and self-determination
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills




- Experience in individual and community advocacy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of the needs of marginalized populations, particularly low-income individuals and racialized communities, and experience working with these groups
- Experience addressing community issues such as housing, food security, and mental health
- Knowledge and experience working within community development models and analytical frameworks, including systems-level approaches, anti-oppressive practice, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approaches
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and a non-judgmental approach toward others regardless of gender, culture, race, sexual orientation, or other identities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends
- Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle
