Full-Time Contract with Potential Permanent Position

Container Corporation of Canada is seeking an experienced, hands-on programmer/software developer to design and build a new computerized order-entry and manufacturing management system for our established manufacturing company.

This will initially be a full time contract position for the duration of the development and implementation project. If the project is successfully completed and we are satisfied with the individual, there is an opportunity for the position to become permanent, with responsibility for ongoing administration, maintenance and further development of the system.

The Project The successful candidate will work directly with management and our existing programmer to develop an integrated system covering the complete process from initial customer inquiry through production, shipping, invoicing and accounting.

The system is expected to include:

- Customer and product information
- Requests for quotation and quotation preparation
- Order entry and customer purchase-order tracking
- Purchase orders for materials and components
- Receiving and inventory control
- Production orders and production tracking
- Machine and labour time recording
- Job costing
- Scrap and production variance reporting
- Shipping documentation
- Automatic creation of invoices from completed shipments
- Accounts receivable and accounts payable integration
- Integration with QuickBooks or a comparable accounting system
- Management reports covering outstanding orders, inventory, production status, costs, sales and profitability
- Daily job-costing and gross-profit information

The system will ultimately be used by customer service, accounting, purchasing,

production and management personnel. Documentation Is Essential A major requirement of this position is complete documentation of the system and source code.

We do not want to develop a system that becomes dependent upon one individual.

The successful candidate must build and document the program so that our existing programmer can understand it, maintain it, troubleshoot it and take over administration if necessary.

This includes clear documentation of:

- Source code and program structure
- Database structure
- Interfaces and integrations
- Installation and deployment procedures
- Administrative procedures
- Backup and recovery procedures
- User permissions and security
- Changes and version history

Our existing programmer will participate throughout the project so that there is continuous knowledge transfer rather than a handover only after the program is completed. The Person We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

- Has substantial experience developing business applications
- Understands relational databases and multi-user systems
- Has experience with order-entry, ERP, manufacturing, inventory or accounting systems
- Can translate actual business procedures into practical software
- Is comfortable working directly with management and end users
- Can develop an intuitive system for employees who are not programmers

- Writes clean, maintainable and well-documented code
- Understands the importance of data integrity, security, backups and disaster recovery
- Can take responsibility for a project from initial design through testing and implementation

Experience integrating software with QuickBooks would be particularly valuable.

Position Structure

This is intended to be a full-time assignment until the system is completed, tested, documented and operating successfully.

We are not looking for someone who will work on the project occasionally between numerous other clients.

Following successful completion, there is a possibility of continuing in a permanent or long-term role as system administrator/developer, maintaining the system and developing additional capabilities as our requirements evolve.

To Apply

Please provide

- A brief description of your programming and database experience.
- Examples of business, ERP, manufacturing, order-entry or accounting systems you have developed.
- The programming languages, frameworks and databases you recommend for a project of this type.
- Your experience integrating with QuickBooks or other accounting systems.
- Your availability to work on the project full time.
- Your proposed hourly rate or compensation expectations.
- References or examples of comparable completed projects.

We are particularly interested in finding an experienced individual who can take ownership of the project while building a system that the company—not the programmer—ultimately controls and understands. Pay: $57,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
