The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Controller / Assistant Controller to join our team and play a key role in the day-to-day financial operations of the organization.
This is a hands-on position for someone who likes to get involved, solve problems, and get things done. The successful candidate will be highly dependable, detail-oriented and comfortable taking ownership of their responsibilities from start to finish.
We are looking for a steady, practical professional who brings good judgment, strong accounting fundamentals, and a willingness to dig into the details when necessary. This isn't a role for someone who simply identifies issues and passes them along—we want someone who takes the initiative to understand the problem and help solve it.
What You'll Do
Reporting to the senior finance leadership team, you will be responsible for a broad range of accounting and financial management activities, including:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash management, and general ledger activities.
- Manage and participate directly in the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
- Perform account reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are investigated and resolved promptly.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial information and accounting records.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Monitor financial results and investigate unusual trends, variances, or inconsistencies.
- Support payroll and related financial processes as required.
- Coordinate information required for external accountants, auditors, tax filings, and other reporting requirements.
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve reporting, and increase efficiency.
- Work with other departments to resolve accounting and financial issues.
- Assist with financial analysis and special projects as required.
- Be willing to step in and help wherever necessary to keep the finance function running smoothly.
What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will have:
- A professional accounting designation, Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
- 3–5 years of experience at the Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar level.
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- A practical, common-sense approach to problem solving.
- The ability to investigate issues independently and follow them through to resolution.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting and financial systems.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people throughout the organization.
- A willingness to learn new systems, processes, and technology.
The Person We're Looking For Beyond technical qualifications, how you work matters to us.
You are someone who
- Takes ownership. If something lands on your desk, you make sure it gets dealt with.
- Gets into the details. You don't assume the numbers are right, you understand what's behind them.
- Solves problems. When something doesn't make sense,
your instinct is to investigate it and find a solution.
- Is dependable. People know that when you say something will get done, it gets done.
- Is proactive. You don't need to be reminded about every deadline or responsibility.
- Is comfortable being hands-on. No task is beneath you when something needs to get done.
- Stays calm under pressure. Month-end, year-end, and competing deadlines don't throw you off your game.
- Has good judgment. You know when to make a decision yourself and when something needs to be escalated.
- Looks for better ways of doing things. You respect good processes but are not afraid to improve ones that are not working.
- Is a team player. You're willing to pitch in and help others when needed.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first year, we would expect you to:
- Develop a strong understanding of our financial systems, processes, and reporting.
- Become a trusted and dependable member of the finance team.
- Take ownership of key accounting processes with minimal supervision.
- Ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and delivered on time.
- Identify and resolve issues before they become larger problems.
- Improve the consistency and efficiency of selected finance processes.
- Build robust working relationships across the organization.
Ultimately, we are looking for someone who brings consistency, accountability, and follow-through to the role—a strong accounting professional who takes pride in getting the details right and making sure things are done.
