About Us

Peak House is a resource serving youth and their families across the province of British Columbia. It is a voluntary, ten-week, live-in, drug and alcohol treatment program for youth seeking freedom from problematic substance use. Our program is located in Vancouver, operated by Pacific Youth and Family Services Society, and funded by Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. We have been in operation for over 35 years.

The Position

Peak House is seeking a Temporary Cook to join our team and provide nutritious, balanced, and youth-friendly meals for the young people residing in our live-in treatment program.

The Cook is responsible for the provision of meal service, including meal planning, food shopping, meal preparation, kitchen organization, inventory management, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen setting.

This position is well suited to someone who is organized, dependable, takes initiative, and enjoys working independently. The successful candidate will work closely with the Program Manager and program staff to ensure that meals are prepared and served in accordance with established menus, dietary requirements, FoodSafe standards, and health and safety regulations.

This is a temporary position of 30–35 hours per week with the transition into a permanent position based on organizational needs and the successful candidate's performance.

The Perfect Candidate

You are someone who

- Has experience preparing meals in a professional, residential, institutional, or similar setting
- Has experience preparing meals for groups
- Is comfortable working independently and managing the kitchen with minimal supervision
- Is organized and able to plan and prioritize daily responsibilities




- Takes pride in preparing nutritious, appealing, and youth-friendly meals
- Is able to follow established menus and recipes
- Is comfortable accommodating dietary restrictions and food allergies
- Has strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and protected food-handling practices
- Demonstrates excellent attention to detail
- Maintains a clean, organized, and welcoming kitchen environment
- Is able to monitor food inventory and identify purchasing needs
- Takes initiative to identify and report equipment or kitchen maintenance concerns
- Communicates clearly and respectfully with youth, staff, and management
- Is friendly, kind, collaborative, and brings a positive attitude to the team
- Understands the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries when working with youth
- Is dependable and committed to providing consistent, high-quality meal service

Qualifications

- Food service training
- Current FoodSafe certification
- Minimum three years of experience in a residential, live-in, institutional, or similar food-service setting
- Experience with food purchasing and meal preparation for groups
- Experience with menu planning and working from established meal plans
- Experience working within a youth-serving, health care, social services, or non-profit organization
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and food-service standards
- A genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of youth and contribute to a supportive treatment environment

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
