Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable, organized, and experienced Part-Time Cook to join our team. The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals and snacks for residents while maintaining high standards of food quality, cleanliness, and food safety.
The ideal candidate is dependable, able to work independently, and committed to providing residents with a positive and enjoyable dining experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesMeal Preparation & Service
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to established menus and schedules.
- Ensure meals are nutritious, appealing, properly portioned, and served on time.
- Accommodate special dietary requirements, including diabetic, low-sodium, vegetarian, allergy-related, and other modified diets as required.
- Follow proper food preparation, cooking, storage, and temperature-control procedures.
- Maintain appropriate portion control to minimize food waste and manage costs.
Menu Planning & Inventory
- Assist with weekly and monthly menu planning.
- Monitor food and kitchen supply inventory and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
- Receive, check, label, rotate, and properly store food deliveries.
- Monitor expiry dates and follow proper stock-rotation procedures.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen and food preparation area.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils,
appliances, and work surfaces.
- Safely operate kitchen equipment and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Complete food temperature, cleaning, and other required kitchen records.
Teamwork & Resident Service
- Work collaboratively with other staff to support residents' dietary needs and preferences.
- Communicate dietary restrictions, allergies, preferences, and concerns to appropriate team members.
- Maintain respectful and skilled interactions with residents, staff, and visitors.
- Participate in staff meetings and training as required.
- Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Valid Food Handler Certification required.
- Previous cooking experience in a residential, retirement, supportive housing, institutional, or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, meal preparation, portion control, and special dietary requirements.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and responsible.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Must be available for a flexible part-time schedule, including weekends and holidays as required.
Pay: $17.60-$18.00 per hour
