The Office of Counselling Services at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) invites applications to fill a roster of a call list for a casual Personal Counsellor. Personal Counsellors report directly to the Manager of Counselling.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core responsibilities for the position will include:
- Provision of personal counselling to students
- Provision of outreach services, including workshops, presentations, and information booths
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree at the Masters level, or greater, in Educational Counselling, or related discipline
- Specific expertise and experience in counselling students in post-secondary education is preferred
- Candidate must have, or be clearly eligible and willing to obtain,
the Counselling Therapist title with the College of Counselling Therapists in PEI (CCTPEI); similar provincial licensure may be considered
- The ideal candidate will possess a background working with university students in educational development and planning
- Crisis response training and experience would be valuable to this position
- Skills in triage and effective referrals to community resources and managing consultation with medical and psychiatric resources are essential
- Experience and comfort working with a diverse student population reflecting the reality of today’s campus, including issues of culture, gender, orientation, and equity are required; lived experience in these areas would be an asset
