RQ00743 - Systems Testing/QA Specialist - Intermediate of Toronto
Must Haves:
- Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline. Certification in Software Quality Engineering or an equivalent credential is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience performing testing for large-scale applications, including on-premise, web solutions, cloud-based integrations, and mobile platforms.
- Strong experience in executing test cycles, analyzing results, and managing the full defect lifecycle using tools like OpenText ALM, OpenText Octane, JIRA, X-Ray, Confluence, etc.
- Strong understanding of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and experience working within Waterfall, Agile (Scrum), and Hybrid environments
Strong Nice To Have: Previous experience in executing testing activities on specialized platforms including: AI-based solutions, ServiceNow, Salesforce, SAP, or equivalent would be considered a strong asset.

BACKGROUND
The Technology Quality Assurance Services unit in the City's Technology Services Division provides software testing expert advise and services to various technology programs to ensure a standardized and consistent. implementation of QA best practices.
GENERAL SCOPE STATEMENT
The purpose of this procurement is to engage an intermediate QA Specialist consultant who brings expertise across various testing disciplines and methodologies.
The consultant will support the delivery of high-quality software solutions by contributing to executing testing activities at different levels of project delivery.
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:
- Providing software testing execution services across multiple domains such as:
- Functional Testing
- Regression Testing
- Test Automation
- API Testing
- Performance Testing
- Testing of AI based solutions
- Applying testing practices effectively within diverse development methodologies including:
- Agile
- Hybrid approaches
- Supporting testing efforts across various platforms and environments, including:
- Cloud-based solutions
- Contribute to test planning and strategy development
- Support the oversight of quality assurance deliverables
- Stakeholder communication and reporting as required
The selected consultant must demonstrate proven experience in software testing, adaptability to different project contexts, and the ability to contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality software products
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline. Certification in Software Quality Engineering or an equivalent credential is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience performing testing for large-scale applications, including on-premise, web solutions, cloud-based integrations, and mobile platforms.
- Experience executing various testing activities and coordinating with other team members as required to ensure alignment and timely delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical abilities in understanding business processes, information systems, web UI design and accessibility.
- Hands-on experience with all types of testing: Functional, Integration, Regression, and User Acceptance Testing—across web-based, mobile, and cloud platforms. Experience with API and AODA testing is considered an asset.
- Solid experience in executing test cycles, analyzing results, and managing the full defect lifecycle using tools like OpenText ALM, OpenText Octane, JIRA, X-Ray, Confluence, etc.
- Experience in utilizing automated testing using tools such as Micro Focus UFT, TOSCA, Selenium, etc.,
- Strong understanding of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and experience working within Waterfall, Agile (Scrum), and Hybrid environments
- Previous experience in executing testing activities on specialized platforms including: AI based solutions, ServiceNow, Salesforce, SAP, or equivalent would be considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated capability in analyzing business requirements and user stories to design test scenarios, develop test cases and scripts, prepare test data, and assess results for quality assurance reporting.
The Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist will be working under a hybrid work model ( 3 days in office, and 2 days at a remote location). The office location will be Metro Hall 15th floor, 55 John Street in Toronto. The successful candidate will be working seven (7) hours per day, five (5) days per week based on normal working Business Hours
