Cutter Operator – Print ProductionPosition Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dependable Cutter Operator to join our print production team. The Cutter Operator is responsible for accurately cutting printed and unprinted materials to required specifications while maintaining high standards for quality, productivity, and workplace safety.

The successful candidate will have experience working in a commercial printing environment and be comfortable handling a variety of paper stocks, finished products, and production requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up and operate programmable guillotine/paper cutting equipment.
- Read and interpret job dockets, cutting instructions, layouts, and finished-size specifications.
- Accurately cut printed and unprinted sheets to required dimensions and tolerances.
- Jog, load, unload, stack, and organize materials efficiently.
- Verify measurements, squareness, registration, grain direction, and finished quantities.
- Inspect printed materials for defects or quality concerns before and during cutting.
- Maintain accurate counts and properly identify completed work for the next production stage.
- Handle a variety of materials, including text, cover, coated, uncoated, and board stocks.
- Minimize waste while maintaining production and quality standards.
- Prioritize jobs according to the production schedule and communicate delays or concerns to the Production Manager.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic preventative maintenance on cutting equipment.
- Keep the cutting and finishing area clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures, including proper machine guarding and safe material-handling practices.
- Assist with other bindery and finishing operations when required.

Qualifications




- Previous experience operating a commercial paper cutter in the printing or bindery industry is preferred.
- Robust understanding of paper sizes, measurements, grain direction, and print finishing requirements.
- Ability to accurately read a ruler and work with fractions and decimals.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple production priorities.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify print defects and potential finishing problems before completing a job.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and handle paper and printed materials throughout the shift.

Experience
- Commercial printing/bindery experience: 1–3 years preferred
- Paper cutter/guillotine experience: Preferred
- Experience with programmable cutters such as Polar, Challenge, Wohlenberg, or similar equipment is an asset.

Working Conditions
- Full-time production environment.
- Regular standing, bending, lifting, and material handling.
- Frequent handling of paper, printed sheets, skids, and finished products.
- Personal protective equipment must be worn where required.
- Overtime may be required depending on production schedules.
