Design Engineer

Pay: $75,000–$90,000 plus discretionary bonus

We are an established manufacturing company located in Mississauga, Ontario, specializing in custom retail store fixture solutions. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our team.

This role is responsible for designing and engineering custom retail fixtures, displays, and store solutions from concept through production. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical design skills, a practical understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to translate customer and design requirements into accurate, production-ready drawings and solutions.

This is a hands-on role that works closely with our Sales, Purchasing, and Production teams to ensure projects are designed efficiently, accurately, and within project requirements.

Responsibilities

· Design custom store fixtures, retail displays, and store environments using SolidWorks

· Create high-quality 3D models and visual renderings for client presentations and design reviews

· Develop CNC programs and generate NC code for turret punch machinery

· Calculate and manage product costing, material requirements, and estimates throughout the design process

· Create accurate production drawings, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and assembly layouts

· Input and maintain parts, material specifications, and costing information within the ERP system

· Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing, and Production teams to ensure designs meet project requirements and remain within budget

· Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues during prototyping, production, and assembly

· Review designs for manufacturability, material optimization, and production efficiency

· Support the development and implementation of design and manufacturing improvements





Skills & Experience

· Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma

· Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience

· Proven experience designing retail fixtures, commercial millwork, sheet metal displays, or similar manufactured products

· Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling and sheet metal and wood detailing

· Hands-on experience with CNC programming software and generating CNC/NC codes for turret punch machinery

· Demonstrated ability to create qualified-quality product renderings

· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, product costing, material estimating, and BOM development

· Hands-on experience using an ERP system in a manufacturing environment

· Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of design for manufacturability

· Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy

· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

· Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with Sales, Purchasing, Production, and other teams

· Continuous improvement mindset
