About The Role
PS Consulters is staffing a DevOps and continuous-improvement service for an Ontario public sector organization. The engagement is structured as a managed service rather than a one-off project: the mandate covers keeping the delivery toolchain, environments, and releases healthy day to day, while carrying a standing backlog of improvements to automation, observability, and platform reliability. This shape of work suits an engineer who takes ownership of a platform over time and measures success in fewer incidents, faster releases, and less manual toil each quarter.
The successful candidate will operate with substantial autonomy inside a small delivery team, interacting directly with client technical staff. Reliability and communication carry as much weight as technical depth: in a managed-service arrangement, the monthly service review is where the work is judged. The engagement is contracted hourly through PS Consulters at competitive market rates; applicants state rate expectations.
Delivery is remote with rare on-site needs. Work is delivered in English and within the client's security and change-management policies. This is an anticipated contract role tied to an active public sector procurement.
Start dates depend on award and onboarding timelines. Qualified applicants are contacted as soon as the engagement is confirmed, and solid profiles are kept on file and matched against similar upcoming roles with consent. Applications are reviewed by a practitioner, not a keyword filter; short, specific cover notes describing directly relevant work are read and valued.
PS Consulters welcomes applications from all qualified candidates, including members of visible minority communities, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and newcomers to Canada with eligible work status. Accommodation during the recruitment process is available on request.
About PS Consulters: PS Consulters is the consulting brand of PMS Analytics, a Canadian software consulting and resourcing firm. PS Consulters places senior technology contractors with public sector and enterprise clients across Canada and delivers software projects as a prime contractor.
The firm is built and run by practitioners: engagements are scoped by people who have done the work, candidates are represented accurately, and consultants in the field are supported by a principal who reviews deliverables and stands behind them.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions) across multiple applications
- Manage environments and infrastructure as code (Terraform or Bicep), keeping configuration versioned, reviewed, and reproducible
- Run and improve containerized workloads and their deployment patterns
- Own release management mechanics: scheduling, promotion, rollback readiness,
and release notes
- Build and tune monitoring, alerting, and logging so problems are found before users report them
- Respond to incidents, run structured follow-through (root cause, corrective actions), and track problem elimination
- Maintain a visible continuous-improvement backlog and deliver against it every service period
- Document the platform thoroughly enough that coverage and handover are never single-person risks
Requirements
- 5+ years in DevOps, platform, or site-reliability engineering roles
- Production Azure operations experience
- Strong pipeline engineering with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
- Infrastructure as code in Terraform or Bicep, used as the primary change mechanism
- Strong scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or Python
- Evidence of sustained ownership of a platform (not only project-based work)
Qualifications
- Legally eligible to work in Canada: Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or valid work permit
- Available as an incorporated (corp-to-corp) or T4 contractor
- Able to state hourly rate expectations and earliest availability date in the application
- Able to work within the client's security and change-management policies
Nice to Have
- ITIL exposure; the engagement runs inside a managed-services framework with defined service levels
- Kubernetes or Azure Container Apps operations
- Experience in public sector or other regulated environments with formal change control
- Cost-optimization and capacity-planning experience in cloud estates
