Early Childhood Educator – Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement age-appropriate, play-based programming based on the interests, abilities, developmental needs, and emerging ideas of the children.
- Create engaging learning experiences that support children's social, emotional, cognitive, language, creative, and physical development.
- Create a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating environment that encourages exploration, curiosity, independence, and a sense of belonging.
- Actively supervise children at all times while being actively engaged and present in their play, routines, transitions, indoor activities, and outdoor experiences.
- Observe children's interests, learning, interactions, and development and use these observations to plan meaningful experiences and extend children's learning.
- Complete and maintain appropriate observations, documentation, developmental records, and learning stories.
- Build warm, respectful, and responsive relationships with children while recognizing each child as a capable and competent learner.
- Foster positive and professional relationships with families and provide regular communication regarding children's experiences, development, achievements, and any concerns.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, leadership, families, and external professionals to support children who may require additional or individualized support.
- Support an inclusive environment and make appropriate adaptations to programming to meet the diverse needs, abilities, cultures, and backgrounds of children.
- Maintain high standards of health, hygiene, cleanliness, classroom organization, and safety.
- Ensure learning materials, toys, equipment, and classroom areas are appropriately maintained, sanitized, organized,
and accessible to children.
- Participate in meal times, transitions, toileting, diapering, rest periods, outdoor play, and other daily routines while supporting children's independence and self-help skills.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, workshops, coaching, and other professional development opportunities.
- Work collaboratively as part of the centre team and be willing to support other classrooms and educators when operationally required.
- Follow the centre's policies, procedures, philosophy, and expectations while maintaining professional and ethical conduct.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respectful communication with children, families, coworkers, and management.
- Follow all applicable Alberta Early Learning and Child Care legislation, regulations, licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and centre policies and procedures.
- Support the principles of Flight: Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework by promoting responsive relationships, children's dispositions to learn, play, participation, and reflective practice.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Centre Director or management to support the secure and effective operation of the child care program.
Qualifications
- Prior childcare/daycare experience is required
- Level 1, 2 or 3 Child Care Certification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Professional, adaptable, and fluent in English
- Proficiency in computer applications and administrative systems
- Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations (preferred)
- Current Criminal Record Check and First Aid Certification (or willingness
Pay: $15.00-$19.00 per hour
