The Ethics of AI Institute is seeking an Editor-in-Chief and a Communications Officer.
Editor-in Chief
Position: Volunteer (5–6 hours per week)
Term: Six months (renewable)

Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership
- Support the development of the Institute's publication strategy.
- Maintain editorial standards for clarity, quality, accuracy, and accessibility.
- Establish publication schedules and coordinate editorial workflows.
- Identify topics of strategic importance for publication.
Publication Development
- Work with Institute members to identify promising ideas emerging from meetings, symposiums, and collaborative discussions.
- Help authors transform discussions into publishable manuscripts.
- Provide substantive editorial feedback on organization, argumentation, style, and clarity.
- Coordinate peer review or internal review where appropriate.
- Mentor contributors throughout the writing and revision process.
Publication Pipeline The Editor-in-Chief oversees a publication process that may include several stages.
Discussion Summaries
- Short (approximately two-page) articles expanding ideas generated during Institute meetings, workshops, and discussions.
- Written for an educated general audience in an accessible style.
White Papers and Roundtable Reports
- Longer publications (approximately 6–7 pages) exploring topics in greater depth.
- May synthesize multiple perspectives or provide policy, ethical, or conceptual analysis.
External Publications
- Identify Institute publications with potential for wider dissemination.
- Work with authors to further develop manuscripts for newspapers, magazines, policy organizations, edited volumes, or academic journals.
- Advise authors on publication venues and editorial expectations.
Collaboration and Communication
- Coordinate with Fellows, researchers, and Institute leadership regarding publication priorities.
- Recruit authors and identify opportunities for collaborative writing.
- Maintain constructive relationships with external publishers and editors where appropriate.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Experience editing scholarly, policy, or public-facing publications.
- Strong understanding of ethics, philosophy, artificial intelligence, public policy, or related disciplines.
- Ability to provide constructive editorial feedback while preserving an author's voice.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Experience managing multiple writing projects simultaneously.

Goal of the Position The Editor-in-Chief will help establish the Ethics of AI Institute as a trusted source of high-quality scholarship and public commentary on artificial intelligence. Through a structured publication pipeline, the position will enable Institute discussions to evolve into influential publications that contribute to academic research, public discourse, policy development, and media engagement.
Communications Officer

Communications Strategy
- Develop and implement the Institute's communications strategy.
- Promote the Institute's mission, research, events, publications, and initiatives.
- Ensure consistency in the Institute's messaging, branding, and public image.
- Identify opportunities to increase the Institute's visibility and public engagement.
Digital Communications
- Manage the Institute's social media accounts, including LinkedIn and future platforms.
- Maintain communication channels such as Microsoft Teams and other member engagement platforms.
- Coordinate updates to the Institute website and other digital resources.
- Create and schedule announcements, event promotions, publication releases, and news updates.
- Participate in the Ethics of AI Podcast, including identifying and recruiting potential guests.
Community Engagement
- Foster engagement among Institute members and Fellows.
- Promote discussions, events, and collaborative initiatives.
- Respond to inquiries from members, partners, media, and the public where appropriate.
- Help cultivate an active and welcoming skilled community.
Publications Promotion
- Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to publicize Institute publications.
- Develop communication plans for discussion papers, white papers, reports, podcasts, and other media.
- Highlight the work of Institute members through newsletters, social media, and website features.
- Assist in promoting publications submitted to external outlets.
Events and Outreach
- Promote conferences, symposiums, workshops, lectures, and public events.
- Coordinate event communications before, during, and after Institute activities.
- Prepare promotional materials and post-event summaries.
- Assist with outreach to potential collaborators, sponsors, and partner organizations.
Media Relations
- Help maintain positive relationships with journalists, media organizations, and external partners.
- Coordinate media inquiries in consultation with Institute leadership.
- Identify opportunities for interviews, guest articles, and public engagement.
