Volunteer Editorial & Storytelling Lead
We’re looking for someone who can do something rare with words:
Make people feel them.
Someone who can listen to a story, notice what matters beneath what was said, and translate it into language that makes another human being stop to:
See it.
Hear it.
Feel it.
Not simply a writer.
Someone with editorial instinct, who can recognize the story inside the story, ask the question others might miss, and turn lived experience, research and human detail into writing worth reading.
⸻
What is a BLOOMER?
A BLOOMER is someone who believes people can become more of themselves when they are given the right conditions to do so.
At projectBLOOM, we create experiences that activate wellbeing, confidence, connection, creativity, leadership and community care — particularly alongside children, youth, women and families navigating complex seasons of life.
But being a BLOOMER is about more than what we do.
It is how we do it.
We lead with curiosity.
We care about dignity.
We believe joy has value.
We notice the person before the program.
We believe small human moments can create meaningful change.
And we believe everyone brings something uniquely theirs to the work.
For this role, your gift is words.
⸻
What you’ll lead
You’ll help shape the editorial voice of projectBLOOM and tell the stories living inside our work.
Editorial storytelling
Find and develop the stories worth telling, across people, programs, communities and ideas.
Writing
Create original articles, profiles, interviews, reflections, features and thought pieces that sound unmistakably human.
Listening
Speak with families, volunteers, community members and collaborators, and listen closely enough to find the story beneath the information.
Research + meaning-making
Explore ideas, evidence and lived experience, then turn complexity into writing people can understand, remember and feel.
Editorial judgment
Help determine not only what we tell, but why it matters,
whose voice belongs in the story and how it should be told responsibly.
Building our body of work
Help us document something bigger than what projectBLOOM does.
Help us capture what happens to people when they experience it.
⸻
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need the longest writing résumé.
You need depth.
You are curious about people.
You notice things.
You understand nuance.
You know that a powerful story doesn’t need to be exaggerated to matter.
You can hold someone’s experience with dignity rather than turn it into content.
You care about language, but you care even more about what language can do.
And when you write something, place us inside it.
Make us see it.
Hear it.
Feel it.
⸻
The commitment
Approximately 3–5 volunteer hours per month, including research, interviews, writing, editorial development, story compilation and occasional virtual team meetings.
Mostly virtual. Flexible.
Sometimes a nice cafe meeting in the GTA.
We care much more about the meaning of the work than the number of hours spent doing it.
⸻
Compensation
This is a volunteer role.
So no — we can’t offer you a salary.
But we can offer something worth building:
authorship.
Published work with your name on it.
Creative space to develop ideas that matter.
Stories and people worth knowing.
A growing platform where your words can contribute to something real.
A place on a team that believes meaningful work and beautiful work don’t have to be different things.
And, naturally, an unreasonable amount of good karma.
⸻
To apply
Don’t send us your résumé. ?
Write us a note instead.
Email it to:
[email protected]
DM it on Linked In
Start with this
“Hi Hina, here’s what you need to know”
Tell us your story.
Tell us why words matter to you. What you notice about people. What makes you curious. Why projectBLOOM found its way to you, and why you think your voice belongs somewhere inside what we’re building.
There is no template. No required word count or format.
No perfect answer. Speak from your heart.
Just make us feel why this is the right fit.
Because if you’re going to help us tell stories that move people,
we’d like to experience yours first .
Become a BLOOMER.
Come build something beautiful with us.

About projectBLOOM
projectBLOOM is built around a straightforward belief: given the right conditions, people can bloom — even in the middle of difficult things.
We are a Canadian organization creating human-centred experiences, programs and initiatives that activate wellbeing, confidence, leadership, creativity and connection.
Our work reaches children, youth, women and families, including communities navigating serious illness, medical complexity, isolation and other challenging life experiences. Rather than defining people by what they are going through, we begin with who they are, what already exists within them, and what might become possible with the right experience, opportunity or community around them.
That thinking shapes everything from movement and wellbeing programs to youth leadership, family experiences, community networks, storytelling and emerging collaborations across healthcare and community spaces.
projectBLOOM is still growing — intentionally.
We are building an organization where research can inform practice without losing the human being inside it, where lived experience carries real value, and where impact is measured not only by what we deliver, but by what becomes possible because we were there.
