Organization: NEED2 Suicide Prevention, Education & Support Job Title: Education Programs Facilitator

Hours: Ongoing casual position. Hours will vary based on program needs and employee availability and will be assigned by the Youth Education Coordinator. Most hours will occur during regular school hours, with occasional evening or weekend work as required.

Wage Grid: $20.00-23.00/hour

Reports to: Youth Education Coordinator or designate

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

- Workshop Facilitation
- Travel to various locations within the Greater Victoria Region to facilitate mental health skills and suicide prevention workshops to youth and community members
- Use facilitation skills to establish rapport with workshop participants and create emotional safety to explore questions, attitudes and concerns about suicide and mental health
- Complete appropriate administrative tasks as related to workshop management
- Volunteer Coordination
- Provide appropriate, guidance, feedback and support to volunteer facilitators
- Administrative & Other Tasks
- Collect and enter statistics data & workshop feedback
- Attend regular team meetings and contribute to the overall agency goals and planning
- Support the strategic direction of the education programs through active engagement in team meetings and review and evaluation processes
- Receive appropriate supervision, guidance, feedback and support from the Education Coordinator

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

● Commitment to NEED2’s mission, vision, and values, including ongoing learning in mental health, suicide prevention, youth wellbeing, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as Child and Youth Care, Social Work,



Education, Counselling, Psychology, Mental Health, or a related discipline; current enrolment in a relevant program; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

● Current ASIST certification completed within the past twenty-four (24) months, or ability to obtain ASIST certification before independently delivering workshops and within the timeline required by NEED2.

● Experience facilitating groups of varying demographics and ages, including youth in elementary, middle, secondary, alternative, independent/private, and/or community-based settings.

- Comfort with public speaking and representing an organization in school, community, and professional settings.

● Demonstrated ability to facilitate sensitive conversations related to mental health, suicide, stigma, help-seeking, coping, and support in a safe, respectful, age-appropriate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive manner. ● Working knowledge of suicide prevention principles, mental health promotion, mindfulness practices, participant-safety procedures, duty-to-report obligations, and appropriate referral pathways.

● Ability to establish rapport, support group engagement, manage classroom dynamics, and maintain clear professional boundaries.

● Ability to receive and apply feedback, follow established curriculum and procedures, and work both independently and collaboratively.

● Strong oral and written English communication skills and the ability to complete accurate, timely administrative documentation.

● Basic working knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms, and other digital tools used for scheduling, communication, data entry, and program delivery.

● The ability to travel reliably to schools,



community sites, and other work locations while transporting program materials as required.

● Ability to work primarily during school hours, with occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, community events, or travel based on program needs and facilitator availability.

● Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required before commencing work and maintained throughout employment in accordance with NEED2 policy and applicable requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience working in a non-profit, charitable, education, youth-serving, mental health, public health, or community-based organization.

● Experience delivering structured or curriculum-based programming in school or community settings.

● safeTALK certification, certification as an ASIST and/or safeTALK Trainer, or other relevant certifications such as Mental Health First Aid, START, trauma-informed practice, youth mental health training, or facilitation training.

● Training or experience in mindfulness-based programming, preferably Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction or an equivalent approach.

● Knowledge of youth development, school systems, classroom engagement, mental health promotion, suicide prevention education, and community resources.

● Experience supporting volunteers, peer facilitators, practicum students, or co-facilitators through collaboration, modelling, mentorship, or feedback.

● Experience collecting participant feedback, entering program data, completing evaluation tools, or contributing to program reporting and improvement.

● Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
