About the job:
What you’ll do
- Project manages an assigned portfolio of environmental projects by: assembling the appropriate project teams; assessing scope for financial and contractual needs; overseeing the project budget and spending; monitoring and updating project schedules; preparing key project documents; ensuring environmental and regulatory regulations are met; identifying and mitigating project risks; leading project team meetings; and maintaining project records and ensuring completion of project close out activities.
- Prepares project compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders (Regulators, First Nations, etc.) such as project spend rationales for approval, a variety of monthly and annual financial reports (financial estimates, accruals, costs and variances, etc), progress reports and completion reports.
- Oversees the contract management for assigned projects and supports the procurement process by: working with subject matter experts (SMEs) as required to evaluate contract proposals, budget and negotiate with contractors; preparing and processing various contracts; monitoring contract status and spend; reviewing key performance indicators to monitor contractor performance; recommending contract changes if applicable; resolving contract disputes; and pre-approving project invoices prior to management approval and processing for payment.
- Leads and facilitates multi-disciplinary external engagement forums on the delivery of environmental projects involving multi-stakeholder (such as Indigenous groups, Federal and Provincial Regulators, Municipalities, etc.) meetings, workshops and technical forums to gather/address concerns and provide project updates.
- Maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate where project roles/ deliverables overlap. Responds to inquiries related to project status, delivery and progress.
- Oversees project safety by: ensuring projects meet contractor safety program requirements; working with BC Hydro safety representatives to ensure project safety risks are identified,
safety management plans are developed and approved; confirming prime contractor on multi-employer work sites; ensuring safety incidents are reported; and validating safety verifications are conducted to ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC and BC Hydro safety requirements.
- Acts as a program/asset manager for non-power assets (such as boat ramps, habitat enhancement projects, etc.) constructed to meet environmental or regulatory objectives to ensure maintenance and inspections are performed to sustain asset health and functionality.
- Provides project management support to Workplace teams with the BC Hydro environment regulatory review process such as work planning, budgeting, financial/contract management, scheduling, communications and documentation of outcomes.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
What you bring
- Degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, Business, Finance, Economics or a relevant field and six (6) years
- of project management experience; OR
- Diploma in Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, Business, Finance or a relevant field and eight (8) years of project management experience.
- Completion of courses in Project Management is preferred.
- Project Management Institute (PMI) certifications in good standing such as PMI Project Management Ready, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM); or working towards a Project Management Professional (PMP) considered an asset.
- Contract management certifications in good standing such as Certified Professional Contract Manager (CPCM) or Certified Contract Management Associate (CCMA) considered an asset.
- Familiarity with SAP and Primavera P6 project management software considered an asset.
- Must hold a valid class five (5) driver’s license.

- This is for two (2) MoveUp full-time permanent (FTR) Group 11 positions based at our Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC.
- A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Class 5 or equivalent Driver's License in good standing.

- This position provides project management support to the Environment Team at BC Hydro. Typical projects and programs include fisheries, wildlife, vegetation, recreation, and culture monitoring, mitigation and physical works projects of varying sizes and duration to support BC Hydro compliance with legislation and relationship commitments with Indigenous Nations.
- Works in a normal office environment. Occasional overnight travel may be required to visit project sites.
- Occasionally exposed to all types of weather conditions at remote work sites. Occasionally climbs or walks on uneven, steep and/or rough terrain in all weather during site visits.
