Salary: $150,000 per annum ($76.92 per hour), paid semi-monthly. This position is also eligible for an Annual Incentive Plan award and annual RSU grant. Both are discretionary and not guaranteed.

Position Summary
SAM requires a full-time Equity Trader to join its trading team in its Toronto office.
The Equity
Trader reports to the Managing Partner, Sprott and Head Trader, SAM, and is responsible for executing and managing trades for active investment funds while ensuring alignment with the firm's portfolio strategy, risk management framework and compliance requirements. The role also involves monitoring market conditions, evaluating execution quality, supporting the optimization of trading processes and systems, and providing analytical insights to support trading and investment decisions.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute equity and equity derivative trade orders for the firm's managed portfolios and investment funds, ensuring accuracy, best execution and adherence to internal trading controls;
- Select and apply appropriate execution strategies, including electronic and algorithmic execution and smart order routing, and intervene manually where order size, liquidity or market conditions require;
- Develop and implement data-driven trade optimization frameworks using Python, SQL, and VBA to enhance execution quality, liquidity analysis, transaction cost measurement, and portfolio trading outcomes;
- Design, automate, and maintain scalable reporting, monitoring, and workflow solutions that transform complex datasets into actionable insights, improving operational efficiency and supporting data-driven decision-making across the trading function;
- Collaborate closely with Portfolio Managers, Operations and Compliance to support seamless trade workflows and to maintain alignment with portfolio strategy, risk limits and regulatory requirements;
- Support trade reporting, reconciliation and allocation to ensure accurate and complete records across all portfolios;
- Monitor market structure, liquidity and execution quality, and conduct post-trade execution analysis to identify opportunities to improve trading outcomes;
- Contribute to the implementation, testing and optimization of new trading systems and order management systems to support efficient execution of securities transactions; and
Maintain trading records in accordance with the firm's compliance policies and applicable securities regulation.
Requirements
Education:
- A completed bachelor's degree in mathematics (preferred), finance, economics, commerce or a related quantitative discipline.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in institutional equity trading or direct equity trade-execution support with a recognized financial institution or asset manager with assets under management in excess of $1 billion;
The required experience must include:
- Executing or supporting equity and equity-derivative orders for institutional portfolios or clients;
- Using electronic and algorithmic execution methods and smart order routing, including manual intervention for large, illiquid or market-sensitive orders;
- Monitoring market structure, liquidity and execution quality and conducting trade or post-trade analysis;
- Using Bloomberg and advanced Microsoft Excel for trading analysis,
reporting or workflow support; and
- Proficient in Python, SQL or VBA to develop trading analytics, reporting tools or workflow automation
Experience with listed options, ETFs, commodities or foreign exchange, trade allocation or reconciliation, and the implementation or testing of trading systems is considered an asset.
Certifications and licensing:
- Successful completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), the Conduct and Practices Handbook Course (CPH) and the Trader Training Course (TTC), administered by the Canadian Securities Institute;
- Successful completion of the Derivatives Fundamentals and Options Licensing Course (DFOL); and
- No registration or license with the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization or the Ontario Securities Commission is required for this position.
Technical skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency with institutional trading systems and platforms, including Bloomberg;
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of Excel for data analysis, reporting and workflow support; and
- Working proficiency in at least one programming or data analysis language used in a trading environment (for example Python, VBA, SQL or R) is considered an asset.
