You N Me' Cafe

New Westminster

You N Me' Café — New Westminster, BC

We are looking for an experienced barista who is ready to be a genuine part of a small, growing café — not just someone to stand behind a till.

You N Me' Café is a Humanity Café and social enterprise in New Westminster, built around kindness, human connection, and creating a place where people don't have to feel alone. One of our signature initiatives is Order a Conversation, where anyone who is feeling lonely, wants to celebrate something, or simply needs company can ask for a conversation. Our philosophy is simple: Humanity begins with You & Me.

That means the person we hire needs to be excellent at coffee and genuinely enjoy people. Both matter here.

PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING

This is not an entry-level or barista-training position. You should already have solid barista fundamentals and be able to work a shift confidently on your own. This is also an all-rounder role — during your shift you will make drinks, serve customers, prepare simple food, restock, and clean. In a café our size, everyone helps where help is needed. There is no "that's not my job."

If that sounds like the kind of place you'd do well in, we'd love to hear from you.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Coffee & beverages

- Preparing espresso-based drinks to a consistent standard: espresso, americano, latte, cappuccino, flat white, mocha, macchiato, hot chocolate, chai, iced espresso beverages and other specialty drinks
- Operating and maintaining a commercial espresso machine and grinder
- Steaming milk to correct texture and temperature, consistently and quickly
- Keeping quality and speed steady through busy periods

Customer service

- Taking orders, operating the POS, and handling cash and card transactions accurately
- Providing warm, attentive service and helping maintain a welcoming atmosphere
- Supporting the café's Order a Conversation initiative and making customers feel remembered and cared about

Food & preparation

- Preparing simple café food, sandwiches, toasts, and basic food assembly and plating
- Ingredient prep and daily food preparation
- Following food-safety and sanitation procedures at all times

Café operation

- Opening and/or closing the café, including completing opening and closing checklists
- Restocking ingredients and supplies; maintaining display areas
- Monitoring inventory and letting the owner know when supplies are running low
- Washing dishes, clearing and cleaning tables,

counters and workstations
- Cleaning and maintaining the espresso and bar area to a high standard
- Sweeping, mopping, general café cleaning, and taking out garbage and recycling
- Working independently when required, and helping with other reasonable café duties as needed

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Experience matters, but attitude matters just as much. We would rather hire someone dependable who truly cares about the café than someone with a longer résumé and a poor attitude.

The right person is

- Hardworking, dependable and punctual
- Honest and trustworthy
- Kind, warm and naturally hospitable — friendly without losing professionalism
- Mature, responsible, and takes pride in their work
- Clean, organized and detail-oriented
- A quick learner who takes initiative without needing to be told what to do
- Calm and efficient under pressure and during rushes
- Comfortable working independently in a small, owner-operated business
- Respectful toward customers and coworkers
- Genuinely interested in the customer experience — and in growing with the business as it grows

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum 1 year of professional café/barista experience (2+ years preferred)
- Hands-on experience with a commercial espresso machine
- Demonstrated ability to make espresso-based drinks properly and consistently
- Solid milk-steaming skills and correct milk texture
- Comfortable preparing both hot and iced café beverages
- Previous food-service and customer-service experience
- Ability to reliably commute to New Westminster for scheduled shifts
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

PREFERRED / ASSETS

- 2+ years of barista experience
- FOODSAFE Level 1 certification, or willingness to obtain it before working unsupervised shifts
- Latte art — a strong asset, though consistency, correct extraction, milk texture and speed matter more
- Opening/closing and cash-handling experience
- Weekend availability and flexibility for additional shifts

PHYSICAL & JOB REQUIREMENTS

- Ability to stand and remain active for extended periods

- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced café environment
- Ability to perform routine cleaning and food-preparation duties throughout the shift
- Ability to safely lift and move reasonable café supplies when required

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

- Pay: $18.25 per hour to start
- Job type: Part-time, with the opportunity to move to full time
- Shifts: Morning approximately 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM, and evening approximately 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Reliable availability for these shifts is essential. Weekend availability and flexibility for additional shifts are an asset.
- Location: You N Me' Café, New Westminster, BC (in person)
