Farm Hand/Landscaper/ Handyman Position

Position Overview

Tired of being stuck inside? Something exciting is growing in North Nanaimo, and we need the right person to help us build it. We are a plant-based farm, no livestock, just land, crops, and plenty of room to grow. This is a hands on outdoor role with meaningful work, fresh air, and a career that doesn't ask you to leave the city behind.

This role is multi-site in nature; the successful candidate will be expected to travel between our properties and adapt to different tasks and environments on any given day.

Position Details

- Location: North Nanaimo, BC
- Pay: $20–$25 per hour, DOE
- Employment Type: Full time
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Hours: 30–40 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

- Mowing fields to maintain healthy and manageable land
- Fixing and maintaining fences to ensure farm security
- Weeding to promote crop and plant health
- Power washing equipment, buildings, and surfaces
- Cleaning gutters to prevent water damage
- Watering plants and crops as needed
- Completing small repair projects around the farm and other properties
- Pond and Family camp area maintenance
- Barn clean-up and organization to maintain a safe and effective workspace
- Operating farm equipment safely or willingness to learn
- Performing additional tasks as assigned to support property operations
- Assist with planting, watering, fertilizing, and harvesting crops using appropriate tools and equipment
- Maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution across fields
- Perform routine maintenance on tools, machinery,



and farm infrastructure to keep everything in excellent working condition
- Use hand tools for planting, pruning, weeding, and other horticultural tasks
- Support with heavy lifting of supplies or equipment as needed to facilitate daily operations

Required Skills and Qualifications

- Comfortable and knowledgeable with power tools
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Ability to work independently and take direction effectively
- Strong problem-solving skills; thinks before acting
- Commitment to working safely at all times
- Comfortable driving farm equipment or a strong willingness to learn
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the role, including heavy lifting, climbing ladders, and other physically demanding tasks on a regular basis
- Ability to follow a schedule
- Has excellent time management
- Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
- Willing to drive their vehicle through the property

Preferred Qualifications

- Background in engineering, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry or related technical field is a plus
- Experience in horticulture, plant care, or landscaping is a strong asset
- Previous farm experience a huge plus




- Able to drive farm equipment with safety and perform routine maintenance or strong willingness to lean
- Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor issues with farm machinery and equipment but not essential
- Familiarity with irrigation systems and horticultural practices preferred but not required; willingness to learn is key
- Experience operating heavy equipment or power tools is advantageous
- Basic math skills for measuring inputs like fertilizer or adjusting machinery settings accurately
