POSITION OVERVIEW

One of our agriculture employer clients is seeking an experienced and dedicated Lead Farm Hand/Farm Manager to join their operation specializing in seed potato farming. This full-time position requires a skilled professional who can oversee daily farm operations, manage equipment, and lead a team of farm workers through all stages of potato production. The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience in potato cultivation, demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, and possess proven leadership capabilities in an agricultural setting.

As Lead Farm Hand, you will serve as the primary point of contact between farm management and field workers, ensuring that all farming activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with best agricultural practices. This role demands someone who is comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, can make quick decisions, and maintains a robust work ethic throughout the demanding seasonal cycles of potato farming.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Farm Operations Management

- Oversee and coordinate all daily farm operations related to potato cultivation, from soil preparation through harvest and storage
- Plan and schedule field activities including planting,



irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and harvesting operations
- Monitor crop health and growth stages, identifying potential issues and implementing corrective measures promptly
- Maintain detailed records of field activities, crop yields, equipment usage, and maintenance schedules
- Ensure compliance with all agricultural regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines
- Coordinate with agronomists and farm management to implement crop management strategies

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

- Operate a wide range of agricultural equipment including tractors, planters, sprayers, harvesters, and irrigation systems
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on farm equipment to minimize downtime

Requirements

- Minimum 5 years related experience
- Potato farming experience a strong asset
- Class 5 Driver's license
- Class 3 or 1 Driver's license an asset
- Ability to work 14-16 hour days, during seeding and harvest
- Ability to work in inclement weather
- Physical stamina
- Ability to lift 23kg (50lbs)
